Star Plus continues to rule with the number one position tag in the general entertainment channel (GEC) genre, with a relative share of 24 per cent, according to the TAM Media data for Week 10. The channel has managed to achieve 299 GRPs and its share has dipped by one per cent from the past week.
Colors has been in a neck and neck race with Star Plus, which was the unshakable ruler for a long time with its saas-bahu formula serials. Colors, retaining its number two place, has recorded 279 GRPs and its channel share stands at 23 per cent.
Presently, Colors has 22 hours of original programming, while Star Plus has over 37 hours of original content. Colors has managed to add to its overall GRPs from repeat programming of its shows like Balika Vadhu. Star Plus too has now begun a 7.00 pm repeat of its top show Bidayi making it one of the most repeated shows on the channel.
The two channels are airing movies with no break in most cases, and airing events. Where Star Plus had aired 41 movies and events in the last four weeks, Colors had aired 34. Interestingly on February 22, Star Plus had five no-break movies including Krrish that was aired in the 5.10 pm slot on the channel.
Star Plus and Colors are also like increasing the episode duration of their top shows in critical weeks to garner more eyeballs. In Week 9, when Star Plus and Colors were one rating point away from each other, Colors had a one hour special of Balika Vadhu and both Ye Rishta and Bidayi too were longer than the usual half hour of the shows.
Moving ahead, Zee TV, with 209 GRPs, has a channel share of 17 per cent, compared to 16 per cent in Week 9. "The performance of the channel has increased drastically and it is as per our expectations." says an Zee TV spokesperson.
At number four is Sony Entertainment Television, with 7 per cent channel share and 88 GRPs. NDTV Imagine and Star One have both garnered 5 per cent share and 67 and 60 GRPs respectively. Giving the two company at number five is DD1 with 56 GRPs.
Sab TV with 4 per cent relative channel share has managed to retain 47 GRPs, along with Sahara One, which has 44 GRPs. The channel shares of Star Utsav and 9X are 3 and 2 per cent, respectively.
Newest addition, Real, has managed to fetch 9 GRPs and 1 per cent share in the week of its launch. Compared with the launches of other GECs in the recent past, it is not a very good start for Real TV.
Colors had launched in July with 87 GRPs. NDTV Imagine also did better with 50 GRPs. However, Real has not even done better than 9X, which also managed to get 28 GRPs, during its launch.
