Hmmmm... this is a tough question..

We had a lovely history of indian music. It started with aaega aanweala, o duniya ke rakhwaale, suhaani raat, and then went on to the melody era, which started with 60s underwent a revolution with the 70s, died in the 80's and was brought back to some extent 90's via the efforts of jatin lalit, ar rahman, anu amilk and nadeem shravan. But recently we have ppl complaining that the standard of music has deteriorated drastically. Oh sure, we have good soundtracks now and then, but for the most part it really is tuneless.. example:

ai chori
mind blowing maahiya
ooo huzooor
mashaa alllaah subha nalaah
lut jaaon
bantoo bhaiya
lazy lamhe
bum bum bole
milo na milo
sach heknna
ek ladki ki phone number
aashiq banaaya
haule haule
dance pe chance
maahi
aa dekhen zaraa songs
victory songs
dhoondthe reh jaaoge
maa ka laadla bigad gaya
barso re

altho sufi is the only genre which can be considered as music , its not good enough.
Now i'm not saying dance numbers are bad, but we rarely find good ones... dostana and jaane tu are how it should be.. but instead we get mostly tuneless s*** by ppl who want to copy gora saahib and make westernized rap numbers. 🤢

What happened to the melody era? It was fine till 2007 with songs from lagaan, oso, jhankaar beats, bhaage re man, kabhi khushi, fanaa, etc.. but now to find a good song is extremely rare... recently only jaane tu, dostana, race, yuvraaj, jodha, etc have been good.. but its not enough.

we have lots of talented singers around but still crap singers like javed ali n benny dayal, toshi🤢 and amit paul get chances.. what about aneek dhar, abhilasha, abhas joshi, nihira etc?

also if a song gets played 24 hours a day it suddenly gets popular.. example, haule haule, aashiq banaya, barso re which really arent that good get promoted again and again and again and even win the singers awards.😡

Khayyam said woh din ek baar aaegi when he was talking about the melody era.. what do you think?
will it be resurrected, or doomed for all eternity?

sorry if i offended anyone.. these are my opinions . 😊

Nowadays everyone wants to copy rap and hip hop, but that type of music is far from being gora. Although a lot of the stuff that is commercially heard can be crap I would not discredit spoken word and rhythmic performances.

Melody is neither dead nor staging a comeback. Its there for those who seek it. Even highly commercial albums will have a melodious or romantic number.

Personally I am a fan of the loud obnoxious type of music, which most people (except for nerds) fail to realize that it is the most scientific form of music. The BPM in techno/house etc is set at 120 which is an elevated heart rate when you are happy or excited. Thats why techno can up your mood and make you feel like dancing. Its a natural drug that puts your body in a euphoric state.

A lot of the fast beat based dance music is techno. Desi girl does have a good melody and the chorus has a high techno like bpm. Remixes try to add beats to melody. While some succeed, a lot of them fail because they were not composed for such a marriage.

Personally I think the problem with music nowadays is because instead of creating melodies they are trying to create earworms. You know those songs you hate but still end up singing. Repetetive monosyllabic rhythms that would be totally uncreative except for the fact that they are designed to gnaw away at your braincells and make a home in your ears. Catchiness adds value, makes a song take over people and make sales. Hence actual music is sacrificed for catchiness.

Techno and house usually have beats and little or no melody. When you come to trance core or ambient core you get a good melody with beats.

Good melodious numbers are made today also. They just don't capture our attention like they used to way back in the 50's or 60's when most people listened to songs over radios or gramophones. Now a days, stress on visual appeal, even for melodious songs, take away the "getting etched to your memory" charm that comes from listening to songs rather than watching them.

Video killed the Radio Star

There was a reason we heard songs back then and did not watch them.
