God helps his devotees: a story

This girl, whose name was Diana, went to her friend's house one day. Her friend lived a few blocks away, so Diana walked. She stayed at her friend's house a few hours longer than usual, so it was dark when she started on her way home again. She decided to take the shortcut through an alleyway, and she was half way through when she saw a tall black man standing alone, staring at her. Feeling scared, she prayed to God for strength walked past the man, who did not do anything to her. She went home relieved. About two days later, there was an article in the newspaper that a girl was raped in the same alleyway exactly twenty minutes after Diana had been there, and that the police believed a tall black man was behind it.

Diana felt terrible for the girl, and went to the police station and told the police that she could identify the black man who had raped the girl. About ten suspects were brought in, and Diana immediately identified the guy she had seen in the alleyway. The guy confessed to the crime and was put behind bars. But before she left, Diana asked him why he had not attacked her, but had attacked the girl who had passed by twenty minutes later.

The black man replied, "There was a man on either side of you."

Diana was shocked. She realized that God really had listened to her prayers, and had protected her by coming in the form of two men.
