Shahrukh to perform in Delhi C'mas eve

New Delhi, Dec. 21 (PTI): As the harsh winter brings in its share of blues, Delhiites have something to cheer about finally with 'Bollywood Badshah' Shahrukh Khan set to perform here in his hometown on the Christmas eve.

It will be Khan's first performance of such a magnitude in the capital and the second event under the 'Temptation' series to be performed in the country.

The superstar, who will be accompanied by actors Rani Mukherjee, Priyanka Chopra, Esha Deol and Zayeed Khan, has dedicated his performance to the cause of the disabled, Javed Abidi of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People, organisers of the event, told reporters on Tuesday.

"Massive security arrangements have been made for the function and it has been specially organised to be held in the afternoon from 1 pm to 4 pm so that people from nearby cities can also attend," Abidi said.

The event was earlier scheduled to be held in September but was cancelled because of security concerns.

"Though the event is being organised with an entertainment perspective our aim is to build a corpus fund for the promotion of rights of the disabled," he said.

Earlier announcing the event, Khan had said in Mumbai, "I am thrilled and humbled to perform in Delhi, I have not performed in Delhi in a show of such a magnitude."

The capacity for the show, which is being held in the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, is 18,000, Abidi said.

It is being organised in support of the capital-based NCPEDP's 'Barrier Free India' - a year-long nationwide campaign for the 70 million disabled people in the country, he added.
