Celebrity stars and their quirks are not unfamiliar to us. There is Kajol with her ganesh ring, Abhiskek Bachchan with his 'neelam stone' and 'moonga' and the ravishing Sushmita Sen with her penny sized rocks. So when Vinit Singh started surely inching towards the finals in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa's Challenge 2005, he was quick to realize the only constant garnish to his attire was the headgear. The leather cap has since become as important to him on stage as his rehearsals. The cap has become this Lucknowi chaila's 'takiyakalam'. Vinit started doing stage shows when he was barely eleven years old. His parents then, logically, were not very happy with his decision to take up music as a career option. But they had to relent before this tad of a boy, who, even after being rejected six times in the Sa Re Ga Ma auditions on grounds of his age, was finally chosen this year.

Ever since, his family has been highly supportive of their son's ardor for music. So much so that Vinit fondly recounts the memory of his first guitar. "My mother had saved money for the monthly electricity bill. But gave in to my demand of buying me my first guitar. We literally had to go without power for three days after that!" Vinit has, till date participated in 48 music competitions and has bagged the first prize in a record 47 of them. 'Raja' as he is fondly called, is his mother's pet and his mentor's blue-eyed boy. Himmesh Reshamiya was so taken in by Vinit's talent that he has presented him with a contract for the film 'Rocky' starring Zayed Khan. Vinit also has two songs in Mithun Chakraverty's home production for his son Mimoh's launch. "My father is my worst critic and also my inspiration. I plan to become the voice of India and make him proud." Talking about an incident recently on the sets, Vinit bashfully tells us about his muse Diya Mirza's visit on the sets. "She makes me want to sing for her every time I see her. She is just so beautiful." Recently when Diya had come as a guest at the competition, she was so enchanted by Vinit's performance and his sheer lan that she jokingly confessed her love for this Lucknow ka singer. "That was the most memorable day of my life. " Understandably when Vinit wins the competition he plans to buy a car for his mother and build a school for street children.
