"Nana Patekar can unnerve you. Because what he might do in the rehearsal is not what he might do in the take" - Priyanka
IndiaFM presents an interview with Priyanka Chopra where she talks about everything from her forthcoming films to her chemistry with co-stars. Firstly, tell us how do you manage to maintain this fantastic figure of yours? Actually, I don't really do much about it. I was blessed with high metabolism! Besides that nothing much! While Miss India, were you aware that it could be your platform for Bollywood? Well, I knew that it could be a great platform for anything. Thinking about the film industry didn't really come into my mind till I won. A lot of people started offering me roles and then I decided thinking about it as a career. I was really young so I didn't really go into it with an agenda in mind. Everything sort of happened. The title of Miss World adds value to your name. So did you have any struggle in Bollywood at all? Actually there was! My first film, The Hero came to me because I won the title. Then I did Andaaz which was again a small part. It was an uphill sort of walk for me. Tell us something about your upcoming release Bluffmaster. Bluffmaster is directed by Rohan Sippy and it stars Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Boman Irani, Nana Patekar and myself. I think it is really a complete film. It's got comedy, suspense and drama. It's one of the first Indian movies to have a soundtrack. None of the songs have been recorded specially for the film. It has music incorporated from all over the world. We have European, Lebanese and all kinds of music that has been translated into Hindi to work for our film. It is pretty unique. Abhishek has sung a song for the film. You definitely will never know what happens in the end.
I am not singing in Bluffmaster because I think only one of us should sing. Abhishek will compensate for that. I intend on singing sometime. I don't know when but it will be sometime soon. Did you have some classical training? I have trained in western classical singing. But besides that, not really! You went to school in both Queens and Newton. You had the honor of being the only Asian singer in a choir. Tell us about that experience. Well my mom's family lives here (Queens). I had come here for vacations and I happened to stay. I did my high school here. I was actually the only Asian in the choir. How do you know that? (Laughs) How would you compare schooling in India and US? They're both really different from each other. I feel it is way more difficult to study in India because the curriculum there is far ahead in terms of how much we study in one particular standard. The US on the other hand is more practical. India is more based on theory. I think Indian schools are expanding that now. Now students can see what they are actually learning. This is the first time that you have worked with Abhishek Bachchan. What was that experience like? I think Abhishek is insane in many ways! He'll keep you laughing throughout. He constantly keeps everyone on their toes and keeps playing pranks on anyone and everyone. Even though he's a prankster and quite a child in a grown up man's body, he is very hard working and sincere. It was great fun working with him. Were you ever a victim of any of his pranks? No! Even if I was I would not share it with you. So it was a very weird prank… Well, yes… but I guess they stay inside the unit. You worked with his father in Waqt. How would you compare both of them? They are both very different. The age factor does contribute to the differences. Amitji is a legend. While working with him, you are over-awed by his persona. He is wonderful as a co-star and will always help you out. I think he knows everyone gets nervous around him and so he makes you comfortable. He has a tendency to make you laugh which Abhishek has as well. They are both very fond of jokes. That's something common between them. I think Abhishek is definitely getting to where his dad is. It is said that two actresses can never be friends. However, you and Kareena hit it off really well while filming Aitraaz. What is the secret behind your chemistry? Actually, I have never really had any issues with my co-stars. I've gotten along with most of them, female or male. Kareena is a very misunderstood girl. People just assume that she is different and not nice. I think she is a great girl. We hang out all the time and she is fun to be with. We even did the Pepsi ad together. We have gotten along really well. I don't think there is a secret. It is just that when two people get along, they happen to have a nice time.
Nana Patekar is said to be an eccentric actor. Can you share the experience of working with him? |
