But hasn't being protected from the media all through backfired on her? Doesn't she think that the interest levels have suddenly dipped post the release of the film?
"People are watching the film for Shah Rukh and Adi (Aditya Chopra) anyway. I think talking to the media earlier wouldn't have been good for me. I wouldn't have been able to concentrate on the film. I would have been a nervous wreck!" she says, continuing, "At that time whatever you would have asked I would have said I'm excited. I think it worked that I kept away from the media. People didn't have high expectations from me and that worked in my favour."
The film hasn't got great reviews. Is she disappointed?
"I think a lot of critics didn't like the film that much. Guess, it didn't work for them. But I feel that there can never be common universal opinions on a film. There are films that others like and you don't like or vice versa. I hear that Rab Ne? is doing very well. My relatives in Dehradun told me it's doing well."
Despite the lukewarm response to Rab Ne?, Anushka has two more films with Yash Raj Films as part of her three-film contract.
"I'm dying to play a part completely opposite of Tani in my next film. There are so many exciting new scriptwriters and directors in Bollywood today. But the projects haven't been finalised yet," she says.
And even as her first film hit the theatres this month, the comparison between Deepika Padukone and Anushka has begun. Both of them made their debut in big films opposite SRK, they are from Bangalore and have been models. Anushka nods, "It's inevitable because we have similar backgrounds. But personally I don't understand comparisons. Earlier, even as a viewer, I never understood it. I feel art and artists should not be compared because nothing is right or wrong. Different people will like you and dislike you for different reasons. If it happens I have to accept it though I won't take it too seriously."
