Ramayan on NDTV Imagine
Ramayan is a show based on one of the greatest and ever famous epics of india called 'Ramayana'. It airs on NDTV Imagine and is produced by Sagar Arts.
It's a remake of Sri Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan which used to air on Doordarshan fifteen years back. It was a highly successful show and was a rage among people who watched it religiously without missing a single episode.
This new version of Ramayan created by the new generation of Sagars has also met with equal amount of success and has been well recieved by the audience.It has high trps and is being appreciated by one and all.
It recently got two awards at the TheIndiantelevision.com's New Talent Awards held this year. The show got the 'The Most Promising New Show' of the Year award at theIndiantelevision.com's New Talent Awards held this year. Gurmeet Choudhary who plays the lead role of Ram also recieved 'The Most Promising New Talent of Tomorrow' award.

About the Show
The show is mainly based on Valmiki Ramayana and Tulsidas Ramcharitmanas. It is also partly based on Kamban's Kambaramayanam and Tulsidas's Adhyatma Ramayana. This show is 'Sampoorna Ramayan' meaning Complete Ramayan. So, this show will present us with the entire story of Ram and Sita's life.
Ramayan tells the story of prince Ram, the eldest son of King Dashrath and Queen Kaushalya.Dashrath also has two more wives namely Kaikeyi and Sumitra who treats Ram as their own son.
Dashrath decides to retire and has plans to make Ram the future king because Ram is Dasthrath's eldest, most efficient and favourite son.
Manthra the evil hunchbacked maid poisions Kaikeyi's mind. Manthra reminds Kaikeyi of the two boons she acquired from Dashrath on saving his life. On Manthra's advice Kaikeyi asks Dashrath to send Ram in exile to forest for fourteen years and to make Bharat the king. Dashrath is helpless because of promising to fulfill the boons. Ram immediately agrees to leave for exile to the forest with a smile. His devoted brother Lakshman and dutiful wife Sita also join him.
While Ram, Sita and Lakshman are living in the forest, demon king Ravan kidnaps Sita in the absence of Ram and Lakshman . The rest of the story is how Ram and Lakshman saves Sita from the clutches of the evil Ravan with help of Hanuman and his vanar sena by waging a war against the Rakshasas (demons). It might later on, also tell the story of Ram's sons Luv and Kush.
Dubbed Versions
Ramayan has been dubbed into various other Indian language and is telecasted on Sun Network of Channels.
Malayalam version
Malayalam version airs on Surya tv from Monday to Friday at 7.00 pm. The dubbed songs are sung by Unni Menon and other female artists.Tamil Version
Ramayan has been dubbed into Tamil and airs on Sun Tv on all Sundays 10.30 AM to 11.30 AM in India and 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in America. Unni Krishnan, K. S. Chithra and Chinmayee sing the songs in the Tamil version.
Telugu Version
Telugu version airs on Gemini TV.
The content is doing extremely well in the dubbed versions too. on Sun the ratings for the slot have nearly doubled from 4-5 to 10-11 TRPs.
NDTV Imagine is earning additional revenues from the license fee and a share of advertising revenues that the dubbed versions will generate.On the agenda is to take Ramayan to Bengali and Marathi audiences through similar tie-ups.
DVD Release and International Releases
The show will also travel to Mauritius, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, and will see a multi-lingual home video release.
Music and Production
Ravindra Jain who was the music director for the old version of Ramayan of Doordarshan again returns as music director for the new version. Kavita Krishnamurthy and Suresh Wadkar have rendered the Title Track.
Omang Kumar designs the sets and Nisha Sagar does the costumes.
It is being directed by Anand Sagar, son of Late Sri Ramanand Sagar who created the previous version of Ramayan for Doordarshan.
It is being shot currently at Sagar film city where most of the shows of Sagar Arts are shot.
Timing
Monday to Friday 9.30 pm.Repeats are at 10.30 pm and 1.00 pm telecasted daily.
