Who is SRK's favorite – Surinder or Raj?
SRK:: Actually I think that every person has 2 personalities inside him. One is what we are and the other is what we want to be. Life is tough so it's possible that we may never get to be both those personalities. This story is about one such individual who is one type and wants to be another. I think at my age and stage of life, and Adi who made DDLJ – we both feel that I have reached an age where we should end Raj and show people that we all have a 'Raj' inside us. It's not necessary to be a 'Raj' from the outside too. We don't need to roam around with leather jackets, cool sunglasses, and 6 pack abs. I hope – normally people watch films purely for entertainment – but I always want to impart some message. I want every woman – sister, wife, girlfriend, lover, friend to search for her Raj without wanting the physical attributes – like how is his face? Does he look like the Om of OSO? All that's not necessary. You have to see how his heart is from the inside.
There's a beautiful line in our movie – hasne ke liye, khelne ke liye, naachne ke liye Raj theek hai. Lekin pyar toh Surinder se hi karna padega (for laughter, fun and to dance with a Raj is ok. But we all have to love a Surinder). I think that's the true thing. Finally we love those type of people. We love what's inside them, their characteristics. Beauty is only skin deep.
The whole thing is that the film is about an ordinary person.
MAIN AAM INSAAN HOON (I'm an ordinary person)
I believe I'm a very ordinary person. Right now I have name and fame, people say Shahrukh Khan, King Khan, badshah of BW, I have a great house, but for the last 20-21 years that I've been working I feel I'm an ordinary person. My job is such it makes me look so big. But in my heart I'm very ordinary. And I also feel that people love me so much because they know that I'm ordinary/simple from the inside. And this character is just that. I don't say these things about my films but I feel that this film will be loved by everyone. It's very funny.
MAIN BORING HOON (I'm boring)
Actually Adi always says that this character Surinder Sahni is just like you. – a little boring, a little simple, a little quiet. In real life I'm like that. in films I look like I'm very exciting, I can do a lot of things, but I don't think people have to believe that I can jump so high or fly or quote poetry to women. I'm not like that so in a way the character is what I'm like on the inside. I'm more like Surinder Sahni than Raj.
BAATEIN HAIN BAATON KA KYA (It's only words)
People should do what they feel is right, not according to what others say. The minute I leave the house there are 6 things said about me – I'm like this, I'm like that. I think now that's become a part of how everybody reacts. Life is not lived by reactions, life is led by what your actions are. Everyone should do what they feel is right. That's what I say and what Islam says. Respect all religions like Prophet Mohammad says in the Quran.
TEMPTATION RAHA HIT (Temptation was a hit)
It felt very good, we were doing a show after 4 years. There were new people like Katrina, Kareena, Arjun Rampal who's done it before and Anusha. And Dubai is quite special, it's multicultural so people from all over the world come there – like Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and locals are there too so I think about 18-20,000 people were there. They had some great arrangements - I arrived in a hot air balloon, on a throne etc. quite nice. It was very hot there but otherwise it was quite fantastic. I was very happy that we did a show here.
SECULAR SHAHRUKH.
We do namaaz on Eid and pooja on Diwali. So I think the idea is that we should think of every religious occasion as a time for everyone to meet and celebrate together. This should be the modern version of religion.
And Raj is the name from the past as Shahrukh is all set.
SRK: I'm trying to do an antithesis of Raj. I've done many films where I was Raj or Rahul – a yuppie who wears jackets, looks very cool and that part is there in the film too. But I wanted to introduce to people a character who's like this only in films – who rides a bike, romances women and brings happiness. I think my age and the stage I'm at and Adi who made DDLJ…..(Repeat of what he said at the beginning)
