Love and Lust in Bollywood

Do you think lust is being portrayed as "love" in Bollywood these days? 😕

because lust basically means pure physical pleasure, but love, even though it does include physical pleasure, is a much more deep bond and spiritual connection that lasts for lifetime
however I feel that bollywood is starting to portray lust as "love"
I have no problem with them showing lust as it does exist in real life, but I really dislike it when they term it love
for example: Neil n Nikki
According to me, that movie was just lust, I did not see any "love" aspect to it
Others might have different views, but that is just the way I saw it
and there are several other films that are starting to show lust as love
I think one of the main reasons for this is the influence of hollywood and western culture
where a large majority of the time "love" is really just physical pleasure
what is your take? do you think bollywood (and even hollywood) are exploiting the real meaning of "love"?

For me LUST is not happening. Thats th eonly reason that in today's movie with so much skin show and hard hitting songs there is no love aspect left.
Romance is the key to LOVE. You do not have to be brash, hot and sexy kinda of love to show the romance. Most romantic movies simply do not have a single kiss or hug or skin show. Those movies has teh feel of romance which was conveyed through words, touch, and eye contact.
Thats the love I love to watch in bollywood movies....rest are all for front benchers.
Why do you think SRK is the king of romance even though he NEVER EVER kisses a girl on the lips.......he is just becasue he does not do that.

Very well said..Couldnt have wrote it better..
For me films that have portrayed LOVE n ROMANCE flawlessly are Dilwale Dulhaniya LeJayenge and Vivah! No vulgarity n no skin show..Films totally devoted to LOVE n goes to show the true meaning of it..Their love speaks through actions, their eyes n their hearts..
I do not say that LOVE does not have its pleasure ofcourse it does, but LOVE is more about understanding each other, being with each other and stregthening the other, crossing all boundaries to be with your loved one..
No offense to anyone, only my opinions :)

Absolutely agreed. In an age where item songs and mini-skirts are all the rage, Vivah was something that stood a little apart. However, by some, it was touted as boring and same-old, which makes me wonder if we've been conditioned to seeing only a racy, fast-tracked version of "love."

Most films these days are half-baked, which only send across the message of infatuation, if it is to be seen from open-eyes. Films such as Vivah, DDLJ, or even KHNH deserve much respect, just for convincing the viewer of true love and tugging at the heartstrings.

You are right in that alot of films have skin show, kissing etc for no reason and they are not love storys. Mean not saying they all need to be love storys like kabhi alvida na kehna was interesting the subject of it..however films like neal and nikki are showing purely lust. To be honest i avoid those types of films since the promos say it all.

However like rajeev4aamna and lovanika said why is srk the king of bollywood with no real skin show and kissing simply because he does romance and proper romance..is there anything more romantic that characters like raj in DDLJ. Rajshri i am a massive fan they have both examples they had main prem ki deewani hoon where they tried something different not the pure love route it failed where as something like vivah thats such a beautiful pure and simple story because a hit despite the director being told it will not work...i absolutely think for me that is definetion of love because that is more likely to happen from what i have seen and is more closer to reality than a raj character turning up though hey thats just as good😆
BAH worked not because of ranvirs character though it was funny but because of girls views i feel because they actually loved him he was just after a fling etc.
Definetly films do expose lust but i do not think those films do well because they have no story really...in hollywood it works because they have really good storys and not unnecessirly so it looks vulgar.

Heya Meena,

Good topic, I was thinking about the same thing, literally every movie thats been released lately has a vulgar scene and I think it depends on the context of the story. Like in BAH I thought the kissing scenes between Ranbir, Minisha and Bipasha were pointless. Thats where I thought love was being portrayed through lust because between the characters there wasn't actually real love. I think the only kissing scene in the film which actually has a good reason for being there was the one between Deepika and Ranbir, as Deepika's characters was eventually the girl Raj fell in love with. It was a sweet way of ending the film See I don't think theres any problem with showing any small kissing scenes as long as it fits with the story. Like the end scene in JWM between Kareena and Shahid was cute and fit really nicely with the script.

So, it depends on movie to movie, script to script and director to director on whether they are exploiting the meaning of love.

~ Like I siad before I don't mind small kissings scenes they fit with the story, but really random ones where the audience can't relate to or understand the characters just looks odd.

~ I still like movies where the meaning of love is conveyed through eye contact, talk, emotions and understanding more then physical actions😆, also great stories like, VeerZaara, Vivah, Hum Tum, Kal Ho na Ho and Jodha Akbar and so many other movies.

its completely correct to say that lust is being projected as love in the movies, and yes the reason for that is probably because directors are trying to conform to hollywood ideas and preceptions. movies like neal and nikki, murder and even jism reflect this as surely the films did not project pure love because pure love cannot be based wholy on physical pleasure, rather there has to be a connection, a meeting of souls, the true pure love movies in my opinion have been films like kkhh the love story of rahul and anjali, kal ho na amans love for naina, vivah, ddlj, hahk, hum tum, saathiya , but to be honest there are very few films made like that any more since directors want to bank on steamy scenes, which is illogical since people watch movies to see good stories and good performance by actors not to see pointless raunchy scenes which do not have any real relevance to the film. although i was happy to see jaane tu na jaane na and jodha akbar as these films showed real love and was real to life, in terms of the feelings developing gradually and all.

Thought I am a fan of Shah Rukh Khan, but have to admit that he did much more than this in his film ''Maya Mem Saab''!!!!!!!..........
