Article: Mouli playing cameo role

We were pleasantly surprised when we saw Mouli Ganguly all over th e promo of Sony's latest showcase from Rose Production - Aathva Vachan.

It's a unique story of two sisters where one of them is mentally challenged is played by Vini. She does whatever her elder sister does. Now that her sister (Mouli Ganguly) is getting married to Aadesh, the bridegroom's family is wary about Vini. Then comes a twist in the tale - the 'aathva vachan' wherein the bridegroom takes an eighth vow that he would protect and love the younger sister-in-law like his wife does thus the title of the show.

The character of Vini is a 'new face'. So instead of promoting the latest entrant, why is Mouli being promoted as the lead character? Shouldn't the channel cash in on the novel concept and push the 'fresh face'? Well, Mouli has been missing in action for over a year. When we contacted her, she said, "It is the channel's decision, but my role is a cameo. Post this, I am flying to the US for both personal and professional reasons."

For an actress who has been virtually off our radar, Mouli Ganguly does not seem desperate for bagging work. According to her, "I am busy with my schedule and I am focused on my play. The current role is something that came my way."

When we contacted the channel head, he declined to comment and left us with - "channel strategy".
