Bollywood's cuisine creativity'
What we are discussing here is songs where lyricists have shown their gastronomical inspiration to come up with zany metaphors in their rhymes. Tandoori Nights is not the first time when writers have resorted to cuisine creativity; Bollywood has been feeding on such gimmicks since ages. We articulate such instances when lyricists turned nutty for their paapi pet .
You are My Chicken Fry
Ever imagine referring your beloved as a Chicken Fry. Well that's exactly what Kamal Sadanah did to ladylove Ritu Shivpuri in a decade old film Rock Dancer. This song could go as a milestone in the edible variety since it was not just the mukhda but the entire song that was stuffed with such seasoned similes.
The following lines went as "You are my Masala Dosa, You are my Samosa'... so on and so forth.
Jab Tak Rahega Samose Mein Alu... Tera Rahunga O Meri Shalu...
A crazy Akshay Kumar sung the lines to Juhi Chawla in David Dhawan's Mr and Mrs Khiladi. Doesn't surprise much, considering David Dhawan's acquired label of a screwball comedian due to his inane films. Such songs were a trademark of his ventures.
The song was an outcome of a campaign slogan promoting popular politician Laloo Prasad Yadav which went as "Jab Tak Rahega Samose Mein Alu... Bihar Mein Rahunga Laloo'.
Batata Wada
From Samosa to its main ingredient potato, the next in line is a song than went as Batata Wada, Khayenge Hum . And this one was literally funny where Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit danced in the background of rolling kingsize Batata Wadas. From dancing around trees to dancing around palatable, Bollywood can dare to do anything weird. The batata wada that they eat in the song is intoxicated and its after-effect as per the song is flying in air.
Dal Gal Gayi
Shah Rukh Khan played a cook in Duplicate and an entire song was choreographed with him catering to delicacies in a 5-star kitchen. Usually you have junior artists dancing behind the main leads in Bollywood songs, but this one had the juniors cooking in tandem with SRK through the course of the song.
The lines went as 'Ishq ka mazaa chakh to lu mein zara, phir kahunga mein ke daal gal gayi' .
Strawberry Aankhen
Now we have heard of eyes being compared to lakes, clouds and deer but for the first time a writer went to compare the beauty of eyes to a Strawberry. Not that strawberry has a negative connotation but connection between eyes and strawberry? Nothing from the shape, size, colour or texture of the two compliments!
