Vijay and others, sorry but I have a different opinion on this and I do agree with Adesh in principal (although I dont think Kicking out artists from Pakistan is any answer and nor should he be suggesting that).

When you extend your support, you expect the same from the other side. I know that the people of Pakistan are having great respect for Indian artists, but that makes no difference. This is not a people issue, it is a Government issue.
I had once had a long convo with Sonu Nigam on this and he is also very bitter about this issue. He has so many fans accross the border but he was denied visa so many times and when finally he was granted on, he was threatened and ultimately a bomb went off.
Jagjit singh was never given Visa while Ghulam Ali walks in any time and performs here. Euphoria were denied visa for a show in Pakistan while Strings walk in here anytime and do a show.
Artists like Lata mangeshkar, Asha, Kishore, Rafi etc have millions of fans there but their albums cant release there. While you have Adnan sami, Fuzon, Hassan Jehangir ( a good 20 years ago) selling openly.
What this does is that it encourages Piracy of Music and Movies. All the Pirated Movies which flood Indian markets are coming from our neighbouring countries. Its because people there love our music and films but their Govt overlooks this fact and does not change policies.
How long can things be one sided ??? I have in the past requested a few of my friends from accross the border that they should make enough noise in their country so that it can make a difference.

I have seen on youtube Sonu is performing in Karachi and Lahore not too long ago. I also see Jagjit Ji performing in Pakistan lately for a charity show for Mehdi Hassan basically but a trust fund is created for the artists in need anywhere.
Pakistan is expensive than Bankcok so pirated movies comes from there and flooded the market everywhere. Re: your statement "how long can things be one sided" I do not know which century you live in. I have read on internet Indian movies are screen in Pakistani theatres. latest I know about Tare Zamin Par and other movies I do not remember the names.
Mukesh Bhatt goes there all the time. In this IF forum I have also read the Pritam goes to lahore to record song of Atif. I have seen Shabana Azmi giving interview on Pakistan channel in Pakistan. Things are improving. I saw Gen Mussharaf press conference and one Indian journalist asked him lot of Indians want to come to Pakistan if he allow to improve the visa system. The General said that we are more softer than the Indian counterpart in giving visas.

@m khan

and what is justification for denying visa to the national pride Lata ji ?
this part of article was interesting:

Pakistani High Commission in Delhi issues lesser visas than its Indian counterpart in Islamabad, as a result more Pakistanis travel to India than Indians travelling in the other direction. This imbalance looks strange because India and Pakistan, deeply suspicious as they are of each other, maintain a clear 'parity' in the number of High Commission staff in the other country. If, for instance, the 'sanctioned' strength of the visa section is 10, then 10 Indians are issuing more visas than 10 Pakistanis. Not necessarily because the Indian clerk is working harder than his Pakistani counterpart, but because the Pakistanis are so niggardly in allowing Indians to visit their country, fearing a larger influx into their 'pure' land would start to wash away (within Pakistan) their carefully orchestrated campaign against India that goes back to August 1947.

His visa to Pakistan cancelled, Javed Akhtar is an angry old man! An exclusive with us.

Javed Akhtar is an angry man. And who wouldn't be when things don't work out your way more than just once? If the ignominy of being excluded from the list of credits for the Commonwealth song earlier this year was not enough, now
he has to contend with the fact that he is the only one of a Pakistan-bound contingent of 23 Indian artistes, whose visa has been cancelled.

"They are lying," he reacts angrily to Pakistan government's claim that there was no problem regarding his visa. "The fact is that they gave me a visa on the 20th of this month and cancelled it on the 22nd. Soon after, on 23rd June, when the organiser Akbar Asif, son of K Asif whose film was to be premiered in Pakistan, cancelled the entire tour to express his outrage, they got back saying that the visa stands granted. What kind of a joke is this?"

Akhtar adds that he spoke to the Pakistani High Commissioner, who assured him that he would look into the matter.

According to Akhtar, there was never any specific reason given for the entire episode: "I was not given any reason as to why my visa was denied."

But Akhtar's guess is that the entire brouhaha may have arisen because the Pakistani government might find it awkward to play host to him given his forthright views on India-Pakistan relationship.

When questioned whether there could be a link between Feroze Khan's embarrassing outburst in Pakistan recently and the lyricist's visa denial, Akhtar was evasive: "If Feroze's outburst was the reason, then why was only my visa cancelled? There were 22 other people making the same trip.

Why were they granted permission? All I can say is that my views seem to be the reason why the Pakistan government did not want me there. But no one can be very sure of it."

Other Indian artistes like Lata Mangeshkar and Shubha Mudgal have also been denied visa to Pakistan in the past. More recently, Ashmit Patel was not allowed entry in Pakistan for the premier of his film Nazar in which he starred with Pakistani actress Meera.

After this experience, will Akhtar consider invitations to the neighbouring country in the future? "Yes, but I will be very careful about the reason for the invite, who extends it, their seriousness regarding the issue and so on. I would definitely be more careful in the future," he adds.

Music essentially has no boundaries. If we did, then we wouldn't have had a RDB amonst us...he was deepely influenced by western music and he brought it in here and gave it the ethinic form to suit our taste. Tell me had there been a boundary , would that have been possible?
We appreciate music, music se humme matlab hain chahe woh Lata gaye ya Noor Jahan ji, ya Ghulam Ali saab ya Jagjit Singhji ya Rahat Fateh Ali khan Saab. So you see when we listen to music, we first dont check the nationality of the singer singing and then appreciate it...😆 we like it for what it is.
As regards to all these visa talk , entry , no entry, I am not sure if we can have this discussion here or not ,and wont go into the right and wrong of that....
But in general I have a question - if someone does something wrong and we realise it, does repeating the same mistake makes us any right ? Humme aage badna hain ya do kadam peeche jaana hain? Kaun ,kab, kyu, kaha kya kiya or nahi kiya.... kya usko leke bitter hona hain ya we do something which rises above all these petty things and set an example , .... unless one learns to forgive and forget, how does things move ahead???
This is a persistant problem, but unless someone takes the first step and show how does one progress?

Visa is denied on both sides

So Far I havent been able to get India Visa. I am an American citizen, who happened to have birth place in Karachi, as thats where my mother was from and had went their for her first child ( me) .
So while I have never lived there, I cannot get Visa to India to visit my relatives , as my parents were born in pakistan and I was born in pakistan
I appied in 2000-rejected .. 2003 rejected . 2008 .. still trying to clear me from god knows what agency
So .. I will just not bother to apply . after all Taj Mahal to google earth par bhi dekh saktay hain
and by the way ... hate mongers on both sides create problems. .. There are some who donot want teh subcontinent to advance in any thing, is liye make both countries fight .
