| Prachi says 'No' to Ekta By MM, 3 September, 2008 |
 In a surprise move on Sunday, Prachi Desai walked out of her mentor Ekta Kapoor's production house Balaji Films with whom she had signed two films. But Ekta had kept this understanding under wraps. However, just before the release of Rock On!!, Prachi got offers for two films - Abbas Mustan's Life Partner and Mahesh Bhatt's Jashan, both of which she signed.After Rock On!! has been received well and Prachi's performance appreciated, one would think that she would be doing more films, rather than walking out of some. A friend of Prachi told us, "Prachi definitely wants to do more films and she has no plans of going back to television. She has Abbas Mustan's Life Partner and Mahesh Bhatt's Jashan, which she had signed before Rock On!! hit the theatres. After Rock On!!, two new big banners have approached her and she is in the process of finalising the deal with them." So what's the problem, we asked? Prachi's friend revealed, "The problem is that these two big banners that contacted her after Rock On!! released, have laid down the condition that Prachi shouldn't do too many films before their films see the light of day. But Prachi can't back out of Life Partner (which is already on the floors) and Jashan (which will roll next month)." So, Prachi spoke to Ekta at length on Sunday. Didn't Ekta get upset? "No," said her friend. "She relieved Prachi from Kasamh Se when she got an offer for Rock On!! from Farhan Akhtar. She understands that Prachi wants to grow as a film actress." When contacted, Ekta said, "I would have loved it if Prachi had been part of two films that she had signed with Balaji films. But I'm not upset with her. It was her decision. She is my dear friend and I always want the best for her." |
