Tabu backed out of a music video Main Nahin Jaana just a day before it was to be shot and the makers went helter-skelter scouting for a suitable replacement. Luckily, model-turned-actress Bhavna Pani agreed to step into Tabu's shoes.

The shoot in question was supposed to be held in a suburban hotel on Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday evening, Tabu called up to say that she will not be able to report for the shoot. The Artiste & Repertoire Head from Music Today (producer of the video) Manu Kohli and the director Shiraz Bhattacharya (of Aaja Pia Tohe Pyaar Doon music video starring Shyla Lopez), explained their predicament to Tabu but the actress stood her ground. Tabu told Kohli and Shiraz to postpone the shoot to August if they wanted to have her in the video. They had also erected a set worth Rs 4 lakh at the hotel.

Says a source, "This was very unprofessional on Tabu's part. If she didn't want to do the video, she should have informed well in advance. They could not argue with her much because she is a big actress and she was firm that she wasn't reporting for the shoot. Shiraz and Manu were in a fix because they had a deadline to comply. Bhavna is Shiraz's friend and thankfully, she bailed them out."

Our source adds, "One wonders if she was uncomfortable with the concept (the video shows a small town girl who aspires to be a star but ends up becoming an escort girl and committing suicide.)."

When contacted, Shiraz confirmed that Tabu informed them very late that she was opting out. He said, "Tabu called on Wednesday and said that she could not do the video and that she could shoot only in August."

However, Manu said, "Frankly, we have no clue why Tabu backed out. We almost fainted when she informed."

A well-placed source from Music Today admitted they were in a tight spot, and added, "At the end of the day, Bhavna has done a fantastic job. No regrets."

Bhavna, who has acted in Tere Liye and Dil Vil Pyar Vyar and awaits her next film Fast Forward, explained why she stepped into Tabu's shoes, "Yes, I am aware that Tabu was supposed to do the music video. On Wednesday evening, Shiraz called me to explain the situation. I have done three videos with Shiraz and he is a dear friend. I just helped him out. Moreover, it was a very performance-oriented video with great music and lyrics. I am honoured to have been compared to Tabu's calibre and am proud to have replaced her."

Main Nahin Jaana features Shaukat Amanat Ali Khan as a co-actor and singer (of Mitwa fame from Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna) and will be aired on television from September.

We sent a text message to Tabu asking for her version, but she did not revert.

This was very unprofessional on Tabu's part. If she didn't want to do the video, she should have informed well in advance

Maybe they changed the concept or something for the movie that made her
change her mind..or some other reason she doesnt seem unprofesional
type.

^^you're right. It's Shafqat 😊
Oh well, many stars back out half way through their commitment. But whether or not this is unprofessional behaviour by Tabu, I'll leave for others to debate!
