Race for filmfare awards begins
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, July 05, 2008]

Who will win the prestigious 55th Filmfare awards this year? As the countdown begins for the extravagant event scheduled for August, popular names are doing the rounds already as possible winners.

Superstar Rajinikanth for 'Sivaji', Ajith for 'Billa', Vijay for 'Pokkiri' and Sathyaraj for 'Onbathu Rubai Note' are the leading contenders. Out of these leading contenders I would go for Sathyaraj.. no doubt!!😉

Among actresses, the race is between Tamanna for 'Kaloori', Jyothika for 'Mozhi', Nayanthara for 'Billa' and Priya Mani for 'Paruthiveeran'. Would Jyothika Nayantara and Tamanna stand a chance especially with Priya Mani winning the National Award for best actress? Let's wait and see. Jyothika, Priyamani and Tamanna did extremely well.. Nayantara's performance wasn't anywhere near!😉 Tamanna and Priyamani are less experienced than Jyo, so I would go for Tamanna or Priyamani!!😃

A panel comprising of eminent personalities would be deciding the winners soon.

Karthi's performance in Paruthiveeran was equaly good, but no awards for him.. so unfair!!😡

Filmfare awards are one of the most popular awards.it's like actors and actresses r recognised by their FF awards. When an actor's biography's written, they mention his hit movies first, his national awards(if any) and then the Filmfare awards..........and I love to watch their ceremonies 😊

U r right, Sri......until Priyamani's National awards came by, Paruthiveeran was all abt Karthi, and now Karthi's being sidelined.Dunno why. And Priyamani's interviews are getting funnier and funnier. 😆

A panel's going to decide the winners? I thought it was by public voting system? 😕

Why Vijay.. why not Karthi??? he did a great job in Paruthiveeran.. esp since it was his first movie,..atleast he was not image conscious!!! I really liked Satyaraj in Onbathu roobai nottu!!.. Dont know about Tamanna's performance as I did not see the movie.. but Priya Mani was excellent.. same with Jo.

so many deserving people & only one award? uff.. so unfair!😆😆😆 lols! anyway, my choices would be satyaraj and priyamani. tams was great, absolutely fab in Kallori but priyamani used her own voice and therefore her performance had a bigger impact.😊

whee!! a panel is going to decide the winner! great, so that means vijay won't be winning an award for best actor. hopefully our lollu man satyaraj gets it!

None of the big movie sites have reported this so far....all I cud find was this.

The stars descended in Chennai's Nehru Indoor Stadium to celebrate the hard work the film fraternity had put in the year gone by. With Mohanlal holding the Malayalam film industry flag high, actors like Tabu, Venkatesh, Junior NTR and Nayantara kept the Telegu film fans ecstatic, the Kannada film industry was represented by Vijay and Rashmi and it was Khushboo leading the path for Tamil cinema along with Madhavan, Karthik and Suriya.

While Telegu Film Happy Days walked away with the highest honours of 6 awards, it was music maestro, AR Rahman who had much to cheer about. Although missing from the action, Rahman collected his 22nd Filmfare award for best music, which is a record.

Tamil superstars Suriya and Karthik celebrated a double whammy when their father Siva Kumar was honoured for his lifetime achievement award and Karthik took the coveted best actor award for his film, Paruthiveeran .

The best actor for a Malayalam film when to Mohanlal for his Paradesi . An emotional winner, Mohanlal said, "I consider Paradesi as a landmark in my filmi career." Kannada actor Vijay collected the best actor award for Duniya while Telegu superstar Junior NTR for his Yamadonga . In his inimitable style, Junior NTR said, "I think these are blessings from my grandfather, who is looking after me from top."

The South Filmfare awards always decides the fate of actresses and those who celebrated their success were Kannanda actress Rashmi for Duniya , Malayalam sensation Meena Jasmine for Orekadal and Tamil film's current favourite Priyamani for Paruthiveeran . Celebrating her third best actress Filmfare award was Telegu's Trisha. She received the award from none other than her co-star, Venkatesh. Trisha gushed, "I want to thank my fans, co-stars, director and most of all to the Telegu film industry for some of my best films till date."

The night was made special by several dance acts. A riot of colour, vigorous dance movements to thumping music and excited shrieks of fans were seen and heard as dancing divas like Rambha, Divya, Hansika, Mamika and Shreya Sarin took the stage by storm. Adding to the variety was a classical dance act by Shobhana and Vineet, who planned their own choreography.

Also awarded for her contribution to Indian cinema was actress turned politician, Jaya Pradha.

But the night belonged to the dashing Maddy. As the anchor of the show, he was quick with his repartees, jubilant with the success of his friends and charming to his heroines. Getting special attention was the lissome Tabu, whom Maddy actually convinced to sing a line on stage.

Katrina Kaif, the sexiest woman as was declared by a popular fashion and style magazine, attended the event to add the Bollywood zing. A four hour spectacle that was special in its celebration of unity of four different film fraternities.

Superb!!!! Karti has not been sidelined......a FF for his debut movie! Wow!!!😛😛

Meera Jasmine's won it for the Mal sec. Her 2nd award for the film....it'll be third when she wins the National award next yr😉

Sri, if u get the pics, post it here na, like u did last time.Surya attended , I hear😆
