We have often seen real-life couples being paired onscreen to obtain that extra zing of chemistry. Then there are real-life couples who do co-star in a film but are not romantically paired opposite each other. The reasons are diverse for different film but there's no denial to the fact that some directors have gone against the tide to have real-life couples in the same film but different frames. We list down a few such cases…
Sarkar Raj
The recent example is Sarkar Raj. This was the first film post their marriage that had both Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in its casting. Add to it there was Amitabh Bachchan to make the outing a complete family affair. But expect director Ram Gopal Varma to do the unexpected. While any other filmmaker would have loved to pair the Abhi-Ash duo, RGV did just the opposite. He also had a reason behind it. Since Sarkar Raj was a follow-up to Sarkar, he had to maintain continuity by showing Abhishek already being married to Tanisha from the first episode.
RGV had Tanisha knocked off by the interval wherein viewers expected that some romance might strike between Abhishek and Aishwarya. He could have used this premise to his advantage but then again he went against the tide. Just after showing a hint of chemistry between the couple, he got Abhishek killed in the very next moment.
Tashan
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor had costarred in Omkara but then they weren't a couple. It was on the sets of Tashan that sparks were ignited between the two and Kareena opted for Saif over Shahid in her real life. But by then it was a little too late for the director to change the script to pair them romantically.
They had a romance track at the start of the film but it soon unveiled as Kareena's con game on Saif. Subsequently Kareena was paired opposite Akshay Kumar and Saif just played a spectator to their chemistry.
Fida
Before Saif, Kareena had a similar story with her ex-boyfriend Shahid Kapoor with whom she first costarred in Fida. Fida too was a suspense thriller where Kareena conned Shahid into making him fall for her. But soon it appears that that was Kareena's trick to exploit him while she was actually in love with Fardeen.
Kareena and Shahid were a couple in real life by then and it was quite a surprise for the audiences to see Shahid shooting Kareena in the climax of this film.
Partner
Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif were deep in love by Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya. But when David Dhawan announced Partner, he paired Katrina opposite Govinda while Salman got Lara.
Salman didn't win Katrina in Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (as he settled for Sushmita Sen) and in Partner there wasn't any scope as he wasn't even paired opposite her. Hope he is far luckier in real life.
Dil Kya Kare
This was Ajay Devgan and Kajol's first film post their marriage and again when audiences would have expected to romance each other post the success of films like Ishq and Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Ajay had a wife in the form of Mahima Chaudhary.
It was a love triangle where Ajay drifted from his marital bliss to fall for Kajol but at the end, he bid adieu to Kajol.
Rajput
Years back, when Dharmendra and Hema Malini were a hit pair, director Vijay Anand had them in the same film but married off Hema Malini to Rajesh Khanna.
The love story between Dharam-Hema is ruined when Dharmendra is jailed for a murder. Subsequently Hema Malini is paired opposite Rajesh Khanna.
