WHAT'S THEIR PROBLEM?
Kasturi co-stars Karan Patel and Shubhangi Aatre can't stand each other. Recently at an awards event Shubhangi last minute refused to perform with Karan on stage. BT speaks to both the actors and finds that their ongoing war is only getting more intense
AKASH WADHWA
Karan Patel and Shubhangi Aatre (read Robby and Kasturi of Kasturi fame) may be a very romantic pair on screen, but off-screen, it's hard to miss the aversion they share for each other. And it was more than evident at a recently held awards event where the tiff reached another level when Shubhangi backed off from performing with Karan at the last minute, leaving him to carry out the performance alone. So much for being professional! But according to sources, while their fight dates back to the very first day of the shoot of Kasturi, it is Karan's "attitude problems and misbehaviour with the people on the sets" that's being cited as the most obvious cause for this fallout.
Bombay Times gets both the actors to give their take on the whole issue...
'I CAN'T STAND KARAN'
Shubhangi took no pain to hide her sentiments for her co-star Karan. "I can't stand Karan even for a single second," she says, "but I can't help it. I had prepared myself for all this before entering this field. I knew I'd have to meet people like him in the industry and being a professional I'd have to live with them too."
But her personal feelings aside whatever happened to her 'being a professional' when she chose to ditch her on-screen better half at the last minute when they had to perform to the best jodi nominations? "I'm a dancer, and I felt very bad when I didn't perform that day. But all I can say is that, I wasn't well. Beyond this, I'm not comfortable in telling people as to why I didn't perform with Karan." But will this incident come in the way of their professional relationship? "I'm not sure. However, for now, all I can say is that I believe in forgiving people for their misdeeds."
'I DON'T GEL WITH SHUBHANGI'
"Yes, I don't gel well with Shubhangi since the very first day," comes a confident confirmation from Karan, "but then what's the big deal? Every family has its share of problems," he states matter-of-factly.
But what happened on the night of the awards with him being left alone to perform solo? "From what I was told she wasn't well because she has been shooting day and night for Kasturi." But if Shubhangi hadn't been well for so long, why did she choose the last minute to back off ? "You should be asking Shubhangi that. She was the one who chose not to perform with me." Will this recent addition to the spate of tiffs adding to their already strained relations off-screen does he think that it will affect their working relationship? "What do you think, will it?" Well, Karan we got your answer, loud and clear!
