SHOT 4

The silence in the living room was deafening.

Samrat still held the receiver in his hand.

His knuckles had turned white.

Revathi looked at him anxiously.

"What happened?"

Samrat didn't answer.

"Samrat?"

He slowly lowered the receiver.

His voice was barely audible.

"Appa..."

Image

For a split second, joy spread across everyone's faces.

Revathi's eyes welled up.

"Any information on him?"

Samrat looked at her, unable to meet her eyes.

"He... isn't alone."

The smile on Revathi's face disappeared.

"What do you mean?"

"He has been living in Kodaikanal..."

"...with another woman."

The words shattered the room.

"No..."

Revathi whispered.

"No..."

She shook her head repeatedly.

"That's impossible."

"There must be some misunderstanding."

"My Rakesh would never..."

Image

Her voice broke.

Samrat immediately held her shoulders.

"Amma..."

She pushed him away.

"No!"

"He wouldn't leave us."

"He loves this family."

Mohit burst into tears.

"This is a lie!"

"It has to be!"

Only Nayantara remained silent.

Not because she believed the stranger.

But because she could see everyone's hearts breaking at once.

That night, no one slept.

Revathi sat before the family temple, praying.

Samrat was on his bed.

He stared into the darkness. He couldn't sleep.

Nayantara quietly walked towards him.

She didn't speak immediately.

After a long silence she asked,

"Can I sit here?"

He nodded.

Both looked at the night sky.

Finally Samrat spoke.

"I spent three months blaming myself."

Image

She looked at him.

"I thought maybe I wasn't capable enough."

"Maybe the pressure of the business made Appa leave."

"Maybe I should have noticed something."

He laughed bitterly.

"And now..."

"...I find out he simply walked away."

Nayantara listened quietly.

Sometimes silence comforted more than words.

The next morning, Samrat made a decision.

"I'm going to Kodaikanal."

Revathi immediately stood up.

"I'm coming too."

"No."

"I have the right to ask him why."

"So do I."

Mother and son stared at each other.

Finally Nayantara intervened.

"Both of you should go."

Revathi looked at her.

"If you both carry unanswered questions, neither of you will find peace."

Image

Samrat nodded slowly.

She was right.

Two days later...

Samrat, Revathi and Nayantara reached Kodaikanal.

The restaurant owner recognized them immediately.

"You're Mr. Samrat?"

"Yes."

"He comes here every morning."

"He lives nearby."

The owner hesitated.

"I'm... sorry."

Samrat simply nodded.

"It's alright."

But it wasn't.

They followed the directions.

A small cottage stood among the trees.

The gate was open.

Revathi's hands trembled.

Samrat swallowed hard.

Nayantara quietly stood behind them.

Just then...

The front door opened.

A middle-aged man stepped outside.

Rakesh.

For a moment...

Nobody moved.

Revathi stared at the man she had waited months to see.

Image

Rakesh looked equally shocked.

"Revathi..."

The next second—

Slap!

The sound echoed through the hills.

Revathi's hand shook after striking him.

"How dare you?"

Tears streamed down her face.

"We searched everywhere!"

"We filed police complaints!"

"We prayed every single day!"

"And all this time..."

"You were living here?"

Rakesh lowered his head.

"I can explain."

Revathi laughed bitterly.

"Can you explain three months of tears?"

Samrat stood frozen.

He had imagined countless reunions.

This wasn't one of them.

He walked forward slowly.

"Tell me one thing."

Rakesh looked at him hopefully.

"Samrat..."

"Did you leave willingly?"

The question hung in the air.

Rakesh closed his eyes.

"...Yes."

One word.

Just one.

It was enough.

Samrat's world collapsed.

Without another word...

He turned around and walked away.

Nayantara found him sitting alone near the lake.

He skipped stones across the water.

None reached far.

"I don't know what hurts more," he said quietly.

"The fact that he left..."

"...or the fact that he never thought we deserved an explanation."

Nayantara sat beside him.

"You don't have to defend him."

"I'm not."

She paused.

"But maybe you should hear him."

Samrat looked at Rakesh.

"Why?"

Rakesh closes his eyes.

"A year ago... I started feeling invisible."

He explains that while handling business tours, he met Madhavi, a divorced woman who constantly praised him, admired him and made him feel important.

What started as friendship slowly became emotional dependence.

He became blinded by the attention.

"I convinced myself that I deserved another chance at happiness."

Revathi's eyes fill with tears.

"So instead of speaking to your family..."

Image

"...you chose another woman?"

Rakesh lowers his head.

"Yes."

He admits that he left voluntarily without informing anyone because he was too much of a coward to face them.

Rakesh continues.

"In the beginning everything felt exciting."

"But excitement doesn't last forever."

Within weeks he realized Madhavi wasn't interested in him.

She enjoyed the expensive gifts.

The vacations.

The lifestyle.

As his savings reduced, so did her affection.

One morning she simply asked him to leave.

"I lost my family..."

"...for someone who never loved me."

He breaks down.

"I wanted to return many times."

"But after what I had done..."

"I couldn't gather the courage."

Samrat walks towards his father.

He quietly asks,

"Did you ever think about Amma?"

Rakesh cannot answer.

"Did you think about Mohit?"

Silence.

"Did you think about me?"

Still silence.

Samrat nods.

"I understand now."

Rakesh looks up hopefully.

Samrat continues,

"You didn't leave because you found love."

"You left because you stopped valuing the love you already had."

Those words hit harder than any slap.

As everyone prepares to leave, Nayantara quietly says,

"Can I say something?"

Image

Nobody speaks.

She looks at Rakesh.

"When chocolate is being tempered, it reaches a stage where it starts looking ruined."

"You feel like throwing it away."

"But if you're patient..."

"...it becomes stronger than before."

Everyone listens.

She continues,

"Families are like that too."

"You broke yours."

"Whether it becomes strong again depends on what you do from today."

She then looks at Samrat.

"And forgiveness..."

"...is not forgetting."

"It's choosing not to let someone else's mistake decide who you become."

Samrat takes a deep breath.

He isn't ready to forgive.

But he also doesn't want to become bitter.

Revathi walks up to Rakesh.

"I cannot forgive you today."

"Maybe not tomorrow."

"But I refuse to hate you."

"Hate will only punish me."

She removes her mangalsutra.

Places it in Rakesh's palm.

Image

"Our marriage ended the day you walked away."

"But you're still the father of my children."

"If you truly regret your actions..."

"...earn back their respect."

She walks away.

Samrat and Mohit follow.

Rakesh falls to his knees crying.

Home

Life slowly returns to normal.

Rakesh does not move back into the house. Rakesh handed the company to Samrat.

Instead, he chooses the path of spirituality which he believed to provide some clarity to his life.

***

A week later...

Television blares through the living room.

"India's Biggest Home Chef – Season 5! Auditions Open!"

Nayantara quickly changes the channel.

Revathi notices.

"You still dream about it, don't you?"

Nayantara smiles sadly.

"Some dreams don't dream about us."

Image

Samrat quietly remembers every rejection she had spoken about before marriage.

That night...

Without telling anyone...

He fills out her application.

The Audition

Several weeks later, Nayantara receives a call.

She rushes into the living room.

"Someone has submitted my application!"

Everyone slowly turns towards Samrat.

He whistles innocently.

Nayantara folds her arms.

"You."

Image

He smiles.

"Guilty."

She tries to stay angry.

Fails.

Chennai

The First Round

Hundreds of contestants wait nervously.

Nayantara carries a neatly packed box.

Inside are her signature Dark Chocolate Orange Cookies.

One preliminary screener barely glances at her.

"Next."

He doesn't even taste her food.

Another whispers,

"She's talented..."

"...but television needs attractive faces."

Nayantara hears every word.

Her smile slowly disappears.

Image

Just then...

A voice echoes across the room.

"Has anyone actually tasted her dish?"

Everyone turns.

Three celebrity judges have arrived unexpectedly to observe the auditions.

Chef Sitara Sharma.

Image

Chef Sonakshi Bose.

Image

Chef Gauri Oberoi.

Image

Sitara walks straight to Nayantara.

"Did you make these?"

"Yes, ma'am."

She breaks a cookie.

The crisp sound echoes.

She tastes it.

Then looks at Sonakshi.

Without speaking...

She passes the cookie.

Sonakshi tastes it.

Her eyebrows rise.

She immediately passes it to Gauri.

Gauri closes her eyes after the first bite.

The room becomes silent.

Sitara turns to the screening panel.

"Who rejected her?"

Nobody answers.

She asks again.

"Who?"

One assistant nervously raises his hand.

Sitara folds her arms.

"On what basis?"

He hesitates.

"Ma'am... she doesn't have..."

He cannot complete the sentence.

Sonakshi finishes it for him.

"...the fairness required for television?"

The room falls silent.

Gauri places the remaining cookie on the table.

Then calmly says,

"If viewers only wanted fair faces..."

"...they wouldn't be watching a cooking competition."

"They're here to watch extraordinary food."

Sitara smiles at Nayantara.

"Congratulations."

"You've just earned your white apron."

Nayantara cannot believe it.

For the first time in years...

Someone chose her because of her talent.

Not despite her appearance.

Outside the audition hall, Samrat is waiting anxiously.

The doors open.

Nayantara runs towards him with tears in her eyes.

For a terrifying second, Samrat thinks she has been rejected again.

Then she hugs him tightly.

"I got selected."

Samrat laughs with relief.

Image

"I knew you would."

She smiles through her tears.

"No..."

She looks back at the audition hall.

"For the first time..."

"...someone else believed it too."

To be continued...

I never expected that EMA is behind rakesh's disappearance.he is just like how he was in yhc.nayantara is right.if they don't confront him they will not get peace of mind.Rakesh felt invisible. Did he mean that he felt neglected by his wife and children so he chose EMA?I am shocked that his EMA was short lived as his gf madhavi was a gold digger who threw him after using him.no wonder that revathy ended her marriage with him.samrat saying that he didn't leave because he found love but because he stopped valuing the love he had struck me.i liked nayan comparing chocolates to family.guess samrat may or may not forgive rakesh.i surprised that rakesh chose the path of spirituality as a part of redemption.i could really feel Samrat's pain after reading his dialogues. I am glad samrat filling the application form and nayantara getting selected for the audition.i can't believe that bcz of her complexion there the people didn't even bother to taste her food.i am surprised to see the actresses you chose as the chefs.its good they questioned the guys who rejected nayan without tasting her food.i liked them saying that people do not watch cookery shows for fair face but for extraordinary food.happy that they selected nayan.nayat scene was nice.someone else believed too? was nayantara telling samrat that the chefs too believed in her?perfect pics.

Why did you name Adaa as Sitara instead of Shesha?ha ha.

How did those judges get there? Was someone behind getting them there? For once they gave the talent a chance rather than bowing down to looks.

SHOT 5

The morning after Nayantara's selection for the reality show, the Samrat mansion looked more like a celebration hall than a home.

Revathi had ordered sweets.

Ishaani had already posted the news in the family group.

Mohit had been teasing Nayantara since breakfast.

"So, Madam Celebrity Chef, will we need an appointment to speak to you now?"

Nayantara rolled her eyes.

"Definitely. My fees have increased."

"How much?"

"One plate of your favorite dessert."

Mohit immediately became serious.

"That's expensive."

Everyone laughed.

Samrat stood quietly near the dining table, watching Nayantara.

She was happier than he had ever seen her.

For years, cooking had been something she loved.

Now, for the first time, the world was giving her a chance to prove herself.

***

The reality show's contestants were called to the studio for their first day of filming.

Nayantara stood before the massive set, staring at the cameras.

There were lights everywhere.

Huge screens.

Rows of cameras.

Dozens of crew members rushing around.

She swallowed nervously.

"Why does everything look so big?"

Samrat smiled.

"Because you're going to become bigger than all of this."

She looked at him.

"That's a very dramatic statement."

"I'm your husband. I'm allowed to be dramatic."

Image

She laughed.

The producers called the contestants inside.

Before leaving, Nayantara turned around.

"Samrat."

"Hmm?"

"What if I fail?"

He stepped closer.

"Then fail spectacularly."

She stared at him.

"What kind of advice is that?"

"The kind that reminds you that one competition doesn't decide your worth."

He smiled.

"Go cook."

Nayantara nodded.

Image

And walked inside.

The contestants stood in a line.

The three judges entered.

Sitara Sharma.

A celebrated chef known for her sharp criticism.

Sonakshi Bose.

Warm and observant, but incredibly demanding when it came to technique.

And Gauri Oberoi, whose calm personality hid a ruthless palate.

The three judges stood before the contestants.

Sitara looked around.

"Talent will take you forward."

Image

Sonakshi continued,

"Hard work will keep you there."

Gauri smiled.

"And ego will send you home."

Everyone became nervous.

Nayantara smiled to herself.

She liked them already.

***

The first challenge was simple.

Create a dish that represents you.

Nayantara immediately knew what she wanted to make.

Chocolate.

But not an ordinary chocolate dessert.

She prepared a dark chocolate mousse layered with orange zest, roasted almonds and a delicate sea-salt caramel.

The kitchen became chaotic.

Contestants ran around.

Blenders whirred.

Pans sizzled.

Timers rang.

Nayantara remained focused.

Until...

Her caramel burned.

"Oh no!"

Image

She stared at the pan.

She had only twenty minutes left.

One contestant laughed.

"Looks like the chocolate queen is going home early."

Nayantara ignored her.

She took a breath.

Then started again.

She remembered something Samrat had once told her.

"You don't have to be perfect. You just have to keep going."

She restarted the caramel.

This time...

Perfect.

***

The judges moved from station to station.

When they reached Nayantara, Sitara looked at the dish.

"Dark chocolate?"

"Yes, ma'am."

"Safe choice."

Nayantara smiled.

"It wouldn't be safe if I did it the usual way."

Sitara raised an eyebrow.

"Confident."

"Terrified, actually."

Sonakshi laughed.

"At least you're honest."

Image

They tasted the dessert.

Silence.

Nayantara waited nervously.

Gauri took another spoonful.

"Your chocolate is slightly bitter."

Nayantara nodded.

"Yes."

"Why?"

Nayantara smiled.

"Because I like dark chocolate."

Gauri smiled.

"Good answer."

Sitara tasted it again.

"The bitterness is balanced beautifully."

Sonakshi nodded.

"The texture is excellent."

Nayantara's eyes lit up.

Sitara finally said,

"You're through to the next round."

Nayantara exhaled.

"Thank you!"

***

That evening, Samrat was waiting for her.

The moment she entered, he asked,

"How was it?"

"I almost burned my caramel."

"You?"

"Yes."

He put a hand dramatically over his heart.

"My company's chief chocolate expert almost burned caramel."

Image

She threw a cushion at him.

"Stop making fun of me!"

He caught it.

"I'm proud of you."

Her expression softened.

"Really?"

"Really."

She smiled.

"Then I brought you something."

She handed him a small box.

He opened it.

Inside was a tiny piece of the dessert she had made.

"You saved some?"

Image

"I knew you'd ask."

He tasted it.

Then nodded thoughtfully.

"Excellent."

Nayantara narrowed her eyes.

"That's it?"

"What do you want?"

"At least some excitement."

Samrat took another bite.

"Okay."

He closed his eyes dramatically.

"Exceptional."

She burst out laughing.

"You're impossible."

"And you're smiling."

She became quiet.

He was right.

She was.

***

Week after week, the challenges became harder.

Indian desserts.

International cuisine.

Street food.

Fusion cooking.

Mystery baskets.

Nayantara struggled with some of them.

She won others.

She learned from every mistake.

And slowly, the audience began noticing her.

Her cheerful personality became popular.

She wasn't afraid to laugh at herself.

When she dropped a cake, she simply said,

"Well, gravity liked it."

Image

The judges laughed.

When another contestant became nervous, Nayantara encouraged her.

When someone forgot an ingredient, she shared hers.

She wasn't merely competing.

She was becoming the heart of the show.

***

One evening Samrat watched an episode with Revathi.

Nayantara appeared on screen, laughing after successfully completing a challenge.

Revathi looked at her son.

"You are smiling."

"I'm watching the show."

"You're smiling at her."

Samrat immediately looked away.

"I'm happy she's doing well."

Revathi smiled knowingly.

"You care about her."

"Of course I care."

"More than you expected?"

Samrat didn't answer.

He looked at the television again.

Nayantara was speaking to the judges.

Something about seeing her achieve her dream filled him with an inexplicable warmth.

Image

He had married her because of a practical agreement.

But somewhere along the way, her happiness had become important to him.

Very important.

***

The next challenge was elimination.

The contestants had to prepare a dish in only forty-five minutes.

Nayantara chose a complicated chocolate dessert.

Halfway through the challenge, her cream split.

Then her chocolate ganache became too thick.

She panicked.

For the first time since entering the competition, she looked completely lost.

The cameras captured her frustration.

She stepped aside for a moment and took a deep breath.

She remembered every rejection.

Every marriage proposal that had been cancelled.

Every person who had told her that she wasn't beautiful enough.

Every cooking show that had rejected her before even tasting her food.

She wiped her eyes.

"No."

She whispered to herself.

"I'm not going back there."

She returned to her station.

She adapted the recipe.

Changed the plating.

And completed the dish seconds before the timer ended.

***

The judges tasted her creation.

Gauri looked serious.

"Your original plan failed."

Nayantara nodded.

"Yes, ma'am."

"But you adapted."

Image

Sonakshi smiled.

"That's what a chef does."

Sitara looked at her.

"You didn't make the dish you intended to make."

"You made something better."

Nayantara's eyes filled with tears.

"Thank you."

Sitara smiled.

"You're safe."

Nayantara covered her face in relief.

***

After several weeks, only four contestants remained.

Nayantara was one of them.

The announcement shocked everyone.

The girl who had once been told that she wasn't suitable for television was now one challenge away from the grand finale.

At home, the entire family celebrated.

Mohit made a banner:

NAYANTARA - FUTURE MASTRE CHEF

Nayantara stared at it.

"You spelled 'Master' wrong."

Mohit looked at the banner.

"Oh."

Image

Ishaani laughed.

Image

"You had one job."

"I was emotionally overwhelmed."

Samrat shook his head.

"Both of you are impossible."

Nayantara looked around the room.

Her family was cheering.

Her husband was smiling.

For the first time, she didn't feel like the girl who had been rejected.

She felt like someone who belonged.

***

Nayantara stood alone in the kitchen, practicing her final recipe.

Samrat walked in.

"You should sleep."

"I can't."

"Nervous?"

"Very."

He leaned against the counter.

"You know what I think?"

"What?"

"You've already won."

She smiled.

"I haven't."

"You've proved everyone wrong."

Nayantara looked at him.

"Not everyone."

"Who?"

She thought for a moment.

"Myself."

Samrat's expression softened.

"You never needed to prove anything to yourself."

She looked at him.

He continued,

"You were always good enough."

Image

Nayantara smiled.

"Thank you."

A quiet moment passed between them.

Then she suddenly held out a spoon.

"Taste this."

Samrat sighed.

"Again?"

"Yes."

He tasted it.

She watched his reaction carefully.

"Well?"

He smiled.

"You're going to the finale."

She laughed.

"That's not your decision."

"It should be."

"Why?"

"Because I've eaten enough of your food to qualify as a judge."

She pushed him playfully.

He laughed.

Neither noticed how naturally they had begun standing close to each other.

Neither noticed how comfortable the silence had become.

And neither realized that what had started as a marriage deal...

...was slowly becoming something neither of them had planned.

To be continued...
