Padikkal, batting at No. 3, continued to anchor the innings and found an able partner in Jadeja, who came out to bat in the continued absence of Shubman Gill, who didn’t take the field for the second day in a row while recovering from an impact injury on his right ring finger during training. The pair of Padikkal and Jadeja stitched together a 72-run stand, with the 26-year-old bringing up his century off 121 balls before retiring hurt on 103.

India continued to rotate batters thereafter, with Kuldeep Yadav retiring hurt after a 15-ball stay and Saransh Jain also making way after contributing 22. Padikkal returned to the crease after his earlier retirement and seamlessly resumed from where he had left off, moving into the 140s while remaining unbeaten.

The day's most entertaining passage came in the final over, when Gurnoor Brar launched Dilum Sudeera for four sixes to finish on an unbeaten 36 off just 18 balls, helping India wrap the day with momentum on their side. The cameras also briefly caught Gill on the dressing-room balcony, with no visible heavy strapping on his injured finger.
