The mass theatre going audience in India lacks taste. The audience with good taste for cinema prefer watching content on Netflix or Hotstar. I have seen TDWP multiple times but didn't watch it in theatres in 2007. This time I made it a point to go to the theatre. Sadly half the theatre was empty. I have a lot of friends who are into high end brands so its not that people here lack knowledge of fashion.

As I said the mass audience here que up to watch movies like Pushpa

Tanu weds manu is not a female led movie, so i won't use that as an example here. It was as much led by Madhwan as Kangana

But you are spot on with what you said about misconception and that was wonderfully challenged by VDW. No matter how atrocious that movie was and it aged like milk but it indeed was a female led movie which was just fun not preachy and did good numbers. Crew is another example. But these are very few and even fewer post pandemic.

May be in India but TDWP 2 is breaking records elsewhere. In gulf it is going crazy with houseful shows.

I don't know what has happened to audiences taste in India but it surely needs a revamp. There needs to be a cinema like this and there is abundant talent to make that happen.

Is it really a question of "taste"? I doubt. I think it goes much deeper... and the change came through Covid & beyond, I feel.

true. everything has changed since covid. can not pinpoint exactly what though. people have become more angry and nitpick on every little thing.

movies were flopping at the BO post covid. then the aggressive movies started becoming hits.

It surely is an 'ensemble' of reasons - conscient or unconscient ones - and I suppose fear for one's existence plays a major part... fear can give place to a lot of negative feelings and that can make people aggressive and movies are an 'allowed' vent... however, there are many more other reasons like getting an adrenalin-kick or liking a strong hero/loner/maverik/solitary animal defeating the evil surrounding him...(but mostly less critical towards current systems)

Hyper Masculinity powered Dhurandhar 2 couldn't cross 1900, here you have 2300 cr female centric Hollywood film. For that huge WW 1800+, ticket rates were 4 times higher, so forget Female centric Indian films, jisko shows bhi nahi milte, getting budget or even Hype for this kind of collection.
