Yep. Huge Anti incumbency with the current government, not happy with the opposition either, half because they didn't question the sitting goverment enough, plus alliance with BJP was bound to be a factor in their loss.

@b: Exactly!!! Vijay has a huge fan base, plus his whole campaign was to question the sitting goverment. People wanted a change, atp they would have voted for just about any prospective candidate who had potential.

That's true, he used his movies to set forth his "ideology" (not that it's all that different from the current govt) but yeah, this actually shows how mass media can influence people.

We must hold our government accountable and demand better governance...

Exactly this is great...

Like People are comparing with MGR but even mgr-JJ didn't achieve it within such a small span of party formation and in their first major election...

As I said one close example I can think of is kejriwal in Delhi but Kejriwal came with good impression..post Anna Hazare campaign..and in Vijay case such a personal scandal broke out just before the election....

Still it happened the way it did....

So whatever it is people have invested their trust on him.... after a lot of frustration and betrayal from the other parties...Hope he does good if he forms government

Tbh, people's expectations are at rock bottom right now. It'll take some time to repair the amount of damage done in the last 5 years. Nobody is expecting a miracle. If he can give even a decent performance, he's proving that people have selected a good person.

Some hero worship, some ground level work, but mostly it was frustration with the current government. TN has a lot of potential, but sadly politicians only see it as a potential money minting state. That needs to change. I'm not too sure if Vijay's that change but hoping he's not like predecessors and does some actual good.

State of Politics is more or less helpless in most of the places where the competition is between who is worse than the other....

So If someone like Vijay actually ends up surprising everyone pleasantly by performing and delivering,he can be a genuine source of inspiration....
