Talking about S1
I am saying about the time after Mandira had died. That baggage was done and dusted
I don't feel Mihir ever loved Karan (forget as son, not even as a child who responsibility you have taken), yes he was Mihir's mistake, but doesn't make Karan the culprit for it.
Even if we say that Mihir did nothing wrong to Mandira (the point that they highlighted to whitewash him), he definitely was the culprit of Karan, as much as he was of Tulsi (or for that matter probably more because Tulsi was an adult towards whom Mihir had responsibility while Karan for most period was a kid who had to suffer since birth just because of Mihir's mistake). Yet that part was never even discussed. Forget Mihir apologizing to Karan, it was like Mihir's mahaanta to even allow him survive.
Even by law and illegitimate child has as much rights on family property as much it is of legitimate children and yet they never thought of transferring some family property to Karan (till ofcourse he was included)
And it's not just about Mihir Tulsi
You said grandparents feelings is more agreed completely, but then did Savita or Ba try bringing Karan home once his identity was revealed?? None of them, Savita even said Karan humaara kuchh nhi lagta. Why? and I am not even comparing her love /discrimination towards Karan vs Gautam Harsh Ansh, she didn't have any feelings for him. Why?? Because he was Mandira's remembrance If for them Karan would have been a remembrance of Mandira, won't Rio be a remembrance of Ansh for Nandani?
I don't understand what makers want to show but Karan was taken as an outsider throughout (even now that's why Tulsi slapped him multiple times, had Ansh been alive, she wouldn't have done that to him. Forget that she doesn't even says that Ansh ke kitne paap hain (obviously you father a child , know about him yet decide to marry someone else that's wrong)
Even Ekta said I like Karan because despite not being a family member he is base of this family along with Karan..
By what logic (religious/legal/social) is he not a member of family while Rio is...
That's why I really feel that the only person who actually loved Karan was Mansukh, he never expected an answer from Karan to support him. For everyone else, Karan has to repeatedly prove his worth.
Ah. That’s where things get dicey.
They never discussed how Mihir ignoring Karan also affected him. He presumed that by doing the bare minimum of providing for his upbringing and keeping him alive, fed and educated while ensuring his mom’s medical bills were taken care of, he did his duty. The rest of the family didn’t want to recognise him being wrong as a father on purpose because it meant that they too unintentionally are at fault for the same thing, at least since they know how Karan is a Virani too.
I think the problem wasn’t just Mandira’s history but that her supposed death happened with Teesha. They probably had that grudge against Karan as well. I mean, did anyone ever chide Gautam for breaking Karan and Damini’s wedding and almost getting Karan killed while at it? Everyone was like, blah, nbd. No skin off our noses.
I also think it’s because most of the family had a grudge against Karan not just because of his mother but Karan himself. He proved himself capable of being better than Gautam, Saahil and Harsh combined. That stung many. He also was sorta responsible for what was a bit of a scandal when he supported Ganga and Saahil’s relationship even before the family did and made sure they recognised their feelings for each other as romantic love not just platonic. He was also the one who made Tulsi realise that the notion of propriety was not above the lives and happiness of two people who are in love with each other whose circumstances just are not usual. The fact that Karan was not one to back off regardless of what anyone said or did wasn’t also liked by anyone.
He mellowed a lot once she shifted to SN. I believe had he not been at SN when Ansh came and was still fighting for his rights and to be recognised as Mihir’s son while he saw Ansh popping up out of nowhere and getting it immediately regardless of his hostilities towards the Viranis and his criminal past, he would’ve turned more ruthless and brutal towards the family and even dealt with Ansh a lot differently than he did.
Nandini might have had a very different storyline too wherein she was expected to fight off Ansh’s advances while seeing Karan as an enemy of her extended family but finding him to be a lot more nicer and a decent person than the man they recognised as their son. Later on with Ansh at SN, she would’ve preferred to stay away from the place owing to him and her storyline could’ve developed differently when it came to her falling in love with Karan.
The family might have even accused him of trapping her when she’s a naive, innocent girl who has no idea how wicked he is, and he’s not gonna be able to use her against them.
The family might have tried to convince Nandini to marry Ansh and her parents as well as grandpa might have agreed. It would have been poetic justice and absolutely hilarious if on the eve of her wedding to Ansh which she couldn’t stop from being finalised, the family discovers Nandini has eloped. Only for her to turn up at the doorstep of SN, dressed up as a bride, obviously with her maang filled and mangalsutra. Karan walks in from behind her and says, “Aashirwad nahi denge humme? Humne abhi hi shaadi ki hai. Aap sab Nandini ko apni bahu banana chahte the, aapki iccha poori toh hui, bas beta badal gaya hai. Pehli baar nahi ho raha hai aisa, toh aap log adjust kar lenge.”
Ansh tries to pounce at Karan but is stopped by someone, probably Gautam and Harsh.
But I digress.
The issue was simple - Tulsi took time to accept Karan and once she did, after she could look past his mother, everything else, she was willing and once she was, she made sure everyone else was too.
She didn’t need time for Rio and also in this case the urgency is a byproduct of Nandini thinking Karan has fathered a child on another woman, a different one other than Tanya. She accepted Parth with eyes wide open and her heart, but this reeks of betrayal to her and she’s not accepting it.
Baa didn’t say anything because she was more concerned about Tulsi than Karan.
Savita had no love lost for him as it is and he wasn’t the grandson she pined for, even if ironically she was the first one to support Mandira during her fake pregnancy. I think it was also her reaction partly because she felt like she was fooled by Mandira and then she had to feel guilty when she found out that Mandira had been lying and using her all along. She held that against Karan too.
The sins of the father they say… Karan paid for the sins of his mother.
Also, Karan being an outcast even amidst family is inspired by Mahabharata. Even when he finds out he’s the elder brother of the Pandavas and can take the throne of Hastinapur by right wherein even Yudhisthir himself wouldn’t dare challenge his right and be the first to stand in line to serve him as that’s what Dharam dictates, Karan denied to take his place. He knew, it wouldn’t be right for him to do so as that was both against Dharam which was with Pandavas and also since he knew, even after being recognised, he would get the respect he was owed and deserved but not the acceptance and love that was genuine between brothers. He was far better off dying at the hands of a brother than living a long life with 5 of them but feeling like he never would be truly loved and accepted, respected by them as an elder brother should have been, as Yudhisthir was by his 4 younger brothers.
The fact that Karan will always have a life where no one knew he existed as a Virani would always matter. After all, the one person who had known him since his birth couldn’t love him and want him either.
To date, Karan doesn’t hug Tulsi, at most he puts his head on her knees, as if in her lap at their most vulnerable and intimate moments. I know it’s partly because Smriti’s not really comfortable hugging her male costars but it’s never happened with even a BD. That’s telling if you ask me.
Somethings never go away. Somethings never happen.
