Which brings us to New Chandigarh. For possibly the last time this campaign. For a contest between two genuine playoff contenders, and two certain title aspirants. To test out how strong and infallible this PBKS aura of invincibility is, and remains. Even as the Royals try to create an air of impregnability around themselves, and inscribe the first blot on an otherwise unblemished Punjab Kings record.

Tonight, though, they run into a juggernaut. A well-oiled machine seemingly devoid of any chinks or weaknesses. A side that is an irresistible force themselves. And an immovable object. Seven teams have tried and have failed to trip up the Punjab Kings. Sides have put up more than 200 and have lost. Sides have scored 260 and still lost. And throughout most of it, PBKS seem to have barely broken into a sweat, casting themselves as the team to beat, irrespective of whether they are on the road, or at home.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The irresistible force. If Jaiswal does not get you, Sooryavanshi does. If neither does, Jofra Archer and Ravindra Jadeja do. And if none of them do, Nandre Burger does. The Rajasthan Royals may not have been entirely spotless so far. But on their day, which has been more often than not this season, they have been irrepressible.

PBKS are unbeaten so far, and have only failed to win when rain denied them at the Eden Gardens in early April. Can RR dent their charge in the first meeting between this pair this season?

Pitch report by Danny Morrison and Deep Dasgupta: "A much-awaited contest this evening here in New Chandigarh. Host team Punjab Kings taking on Rajasthan Royals. Well, both the teams are six-hitting teams here, but let's start with the dimensions first, because this is a fairly decent venue as in terms of the dimensions with 70 on my right, 64 meters on my left, and straight down is 74. Now, I've got Danny Morrison here with me. Now, Danny, couple of matches played on this strip. 219, 162. I know you would love that 162 strip again today. Well, this could be, because I tell you, I'm very excited like you are, Deep. Bit of rain around, and in terms of the covering of the grass that I see, I've got the new seed in my hand, because you mentioned the first six overs, whether it's batting, it's bowling. Bowlers have to take wickets. We saw that last night in Delhi. 8 for 6. Are you kidding me? But I'm not saying it's going to happen here, but it is a very good surface. When you think about Marco Jansen, you think about Xavier Bartlett, Arshdeep Singh, Vyshak, he's in that side, and then you're up against Archer, Burger, and Deshpande. So there's guys there for me, Deep, that do enough with the ball. Doesn't have to be outrageous, but enough with the ball and the importance of being able to try and swing it or seam it a little bit. I reckon on this surface, it could do that. Yeah, but you were talking about this surface particularly. I think this surface is closer to 219 than 162. I could see that sheen. It's got to skid onto the bat really nicely. That's where the new ball becomes very, very important. Dew factor? Not much. What's the par score? Well, that's the reason you would want to bowl first to figure out what is a par score, because, yeah, this looks like a really good batting surface."

Time for the toss. Shreyas and Parag out in the middle. Parag calls tails, and he calls correctly. RR will bowl first. Parag says it looks like a good wicket, and that there were a few showers, which has led to this decision. Hetmyer goes out, as does Bishnoi. Shanaka comes in, along with Yash, says Parag.
