Betal Pachisi (now commonly known as Vikram Vaital) is a collection of stories from around 400-500 BCE, the origin of this is that a saint asked Vikram the mighty Chakravarty king of Ujjain to capture and sacrifice Betal a Pichash.

Vikram goes and catches hold of Vaital. Now Vaital starts telling story with a question at the end, now if Vikram says anything Vaital becomes free, but if Vikram doesn't answers knowingly then his head would bursts leading to his death. Therefore Vikram would only be able to bring him up if Vikram really doesn't know the answer of the question asked.

Vikram answers 24 questions leading to Betal returning, this was the 25th question ( thereby the book is called Betal Pachheesi where Pacheesi means 25) which confuses him and he cant answer thereby leading to the end of it

Although then Betal tells Vikram that the sage was an evil person and was trying to get him killed for selfish reason and then Vikram Betal together gets rid of that sage

There was a widow who had a daughter. later the prince fell in love with the widow and they get married. her daughter his then fancied by the king (prince' father) and they get married.

Later the king and this girl have a son and the prince and his wife (earlier the widow) have a daughter. So batao Vikram in dono me kya sambandh hua (among the two new borns)

This was the question Vikram couldn't answer and hence the Betal didn't fly thereby ending it.
