Maxwell /M.Short & opener Konstats out of Central Contract 2026/27

Australia men's contracts 2026-27: Xavier Bartlett, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, 🌿 first time >Brendan Doggett< , Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Todd Murphy, Michael Neser, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster, Adam Zampa.

The omission of Glenn Maxwell, Matt Short, and young opener Sam Konstas from the 2026/27 central contracts list is quite a talking point. For Maxwell, it might be more about workload management and shifting priorities toward specific formats, while for players like Short and Konstas, it could reflect selection strategy and the depth Australia currently has in their setup.

Central contracts often change based on form, team balance, and future planning, so it doesn’t necessarily mean the door is closed for them. Performances in domestic leagues and international opportunities can quickly bring players back into the mix.

I came across a similar discussion on sportsplay24 where people were debating whether this is more about rotation and long-term planning rather than a reflection of ability.
