You're right though, it would have been too much to weave in.

I didn't expect it to be a land dispute.. like you said though, it makes his sacrifice that more selfless.

Succinctly put: "Balidaan Parmo Dharma" which sums it up.

And therein lies the difference between him and Pinda who were both resentful of the injustice meted out but took diametrically different paths. I liked the scene where Pinda orders him not to speak. Ranveer played that meek part so well- and effortlessly weaved into Hamza, how observant he was, blending into the background but keeping his eyes open. Like how he goes onto to observe the cook's demeanor.

His walking away at the end reminded me of that scene from Umrao Jaan where she shuts the gate leaving her mother. Entirely different circumstance but a lifetime has gone by and they're not the same person.

Jasmine Sandlas was saying they recorded Jaiye Sajana on the day of the music launch, a day prior to release which means Dhar was shifting and adding things till the last minute. I wish he'd given the beginning chapter and some other pieces more thought.

I was quite glad to be transported back to the Lyari world with Akhri Ishq playing at the funeral. And the ride the audience got taken for in latter half was worth it.

Another thing I thought a little corny was the naming of the chapter in part 1, Et Tu Brutus.

Very Tarantino-esque but gives away what it is to happen. Minor gripe though, I can be overtly critical over things I love, it's my toxic love language.

1984 would’ve made everything too messy by incorporating too many subplots - they’d have had to make his parents a lot more prominent to influence him, probably add a few other characters like neighbours, distant relatives, friends etc. as well. So avoiding it was for the best as it would’ve affected the length, the narrative simultaneously and he already had 8 hours of footage with no real idea of how it would fare.

They also wouldn’t want to take the focus away from Jaskirat too much. That’s why we don’t see a lot of his birth family and later his family with Yalina. There are bits and pieces to tell us how it was but the story couldn’t focus too much on either of his families as essentially he’s supposed to be a lone wolf.

Yep, Jassi and Pinda grew up around the same circumstances definitely. So what made them different was their upbringing and reaction owing to the same. Jassi grew up in a family with a soldier for a father while we know Pinda’s dad was a drug dealer who had ties with people like Ahmed. They were both ultimately headed down these paths from the very beginning. The parents probably didn’t interact much but they didn’t stop the boys from getting along and becoming friends as well despite what might have been an ongoing land dispute even back then. They were all in the same area after all and probably neither set of parents felt it was necessary to poison the kids with their own venom so early on. We know in that scene in the MLA’s home, Tittu even says we played together as he’s pleading to be spared. That’s what makes the tragedy worse - the atrocities were conducted by people known to the Rangis, these boys had played with each other and grew up together yet one of them felt no hesitation to do what he did to the family of a friend and all for land.

Yeah, they were shooting in late January with Arjun and Dutt for their scene and the scene where Dutt is cussing at that reporter. One of the Aari Aari singers called Sudhir Yaduvanshi gave an interview to Faridoon Shahyrar and said he recorded the song in late February and that they tweaked it a couple of times.

My guess is somehow it has gotta do with T Series acquiring the music rights only after the first part released in December. I think the news came in January.

We know Dhar has used music to his advantage from the classics to the pop numbers of late 90s and early 2000s for many high stakes sequences. Once T Series outbid Sa Re Ga Ma, they had to use their catalog which is why they were delayed despite the patch work that was shot late in January. That is definitely a factor. If Jio had allowed Sa Re Ga Ma to continue or just had brought T Series onboard from day one this may have been avoided. But I guess initially T Series decided not to care about being associated with the project but when they saw the first part was so big that the second was bound to be bigger, they wanted in. Jio obviously didn’t mind making more money.

They couldn’t edit without the music, and could start the process only after they had a confirmation regarding who won the bidding war. They were probably preparing their album with Sa Re Ga Ma as label in mind, then they had to go through the T Series catalog which is humongous, they were short on time and they needed to see which songs worked best with the scenes. And that also affected the number of original songs they included in this album which is definitely more than the previous one. So even if Jasmine and the other singers and lyricists had some stuff prepared, it may have not been approved or suitable for this particular movie and the sequences in it.

And post the editing too they had CBFC to deal with which ironically has no qualms to let us see people getting decapitated but draw the line at cuss words in a movie aimed for adults.

The next time around Dhurandhar happens or something else by Dhar which is to be divided into multiple movies, I think he would be prepared and ensure that the same hectic madness doesn’t befall him and his team. The label would be asked to stick for however many movies are planned and the production house like Jio would be also asked to not start a bidding war in between movies. Dhar has now enough leverage and clout as a director, producer and writer that he can get this in the contracts in the initial stage itself. Here he was blindsided for sure by T Series suddenly showing an interest when it didn’t before the success of the first movie which made them greedy.

I watched Dhurandhar the Revenge today, and all the seats except the front seats were booked. Overall, I did enjoy the movie, even though it was noticeably more brutal and violent than Part 1. Some scenes were quite disturbing, with extreme violence, beheadings, and a lot of abusive language and even a few obscene moments.

That said, the film still manages to entertain as the story is engaging, though not as tightly executed as it could have been. Compared to Part 1, I felt the songs weren’t as memorable as the title track and the famous Khus Khus scene was repeated but this time Hamza didn’t dance like Rehman did and plus, it wasn’t so impactful. Rasputin was the only song I enjoyed so much.

The biggest issue for me was how the film tried to mix reality with fiction. Some references, like demonetisation and fake currency, were obvious as hints were there in part 1. The scenes where people were being killed back-to-back, and nobody suspected Hamza, were unrealistic, as some were even taking his advice, and Khanani was shown alone with 60k crores.

There were also a few illogical plot points. For example, Hamza’s father-in-law being revealed as a RAW agent was a great twist and everyone cheered in the end, but his actions before that didn’t quite make sense. If he had such a great influence in politics and even met someone like Dawood years back, he only made him “sick” instead of ending him? It showed that he was ultimately responsible for so many attacks in India as D was the master mind. What Hamza’s FIL couldn’t do in 45 years, Hamza managed to do in 15 years?

Some scenes were unintentionally funny too, like when Hamza is brutally beaten and tortured by Major with chains and all, he ends up only with two cuts on his face. Also, Sara Arjun had barely any role in this movie. She atleast had a song last time.

However, Ranveer Singh was very good, especially in the opening scenes that showed his past and reason for being chosen. That part was very emotional. But I didn’t like why they showed his friend being partners with the enemy and threatening Hamza in the end. Felt bad for Uzair Baloch like poor guy didn’t understand anything till the end lol

One thing that was missing was a powerful villain, as Major’s character wasn’t so great. The movie was still great compared to other movies that have no head and tail.

I also missed the second post-credit scene.

Overall: 4/5

I share the same views ..

But from what I understand of the story , they tried to mix fiction with reality , at the same time , present us a larger than life picture of spies , raw & the control it has over their ecosystem ..now it can be fictional or it can be real , your guess is as good as mine ..😅

Jameel jamali might be inspired by some politician of lyari but the impact his identity created in the end was the crux of it all..they would never know the extent raw penetrated in their system, if we plant a doubt in their mind tht their top politicians , army officers or isi agents r actually working for india , imagine the mess it can create in their minds & bring joy to ours🤣 ....now they may not be indian agents as such , they make be pakistanis who became agents for money or any other reason...

2000s was different but in today's time , I dont think their population even cares for religion jihad nationalism or anything..they just want money, itne phakad hue pade hain..thats what we learn from dhurandhar 1 to 2 ..its across the span of 20-25 years ..our govt & intelligence agencies tried to dismantle their terror network, disrupt the financing networks & gather international support for our cause ..in d1 , mr sanyal talks abt a plan to isolate paki & stop funding frm gc, in d2 , they manage to do it & it takes them 15-20 yrs ..may be thats the reason they cud u know , exert that much power over isi & order them to send humza back...in real life we did manage to bring some of our officers back, while some r still in their jails..

Ofc it can be cinematic liberties too ..we want our hero to win , we dont want him.to take wrong steps , we want him to eliminate his targets & come bk home safely as a hero ..we want to see our nation our intelligence glorified ...who doesn't want?

I abs agree that the last part of war type scenario in muridke was overstrerched & illogical ..sp with major iqbal ..if he had to kill all of them.just plant a bomb or something , those 20 mins really tested my patience ...the message is he got them killed or killed them..that was enuf ..we didnt even know who was fighting whom ..khanani bros also , humza kills him while hes alone , and sets fire to his factory ..he did everything that a spy wouldn't..they work covertly ...

The bit with dawood is also a long shot ..we can feel happy thinking hes crippled somewhere in the streets of karachi🤣 hai ya nai who cares!
