But most of these shows were made back in the early 2000s or the previous decade. I think ironically it’s in the past 6 years or so itself that we have had a wake up call regarding how wrong that is. Maybe a silly thing but I think we got exposed to global content in lockdown and realised that shows don’t need to have such couples just for the sake of shock value or something, or at least address the issue when you go there.

Ironically, the only show that did the reverse, older woman younger guy called Astitva on Zee showed how such marriages fail ultimately no matter what; not when it’s the other way around.

I guess awareness and education of concepts such as grooming with conversations that made us think is the difference now. We all grew up watching stuff that our parents also did somehow and we know that their generation saw Amitabh romance a 18 year old as a 50 plus guy in his movies like it was the most normal thing in the world, Hollywood and other regional industries have their own counterparts.

It’s only now that we see that was wrong too.

Somehow the conversation never happened before because it was so normalised but now it’s being called out and rightly so. Now it doesn’t even depend what the medium is or who the actors are.

What makes romance based shows icky is that they make an underage girl or someone who is quite clearly very young have romantic scenes with someone twice her age and that influences an entire generation which is wrong.

I know I am obviously coming across as a Dhurandhar fan and it has a similar couple but the difference is Dhar never had them do any uncomfortable and unnecessary scenes for the shock or titillation factor. The most intimate moments have them simply hugging each other, a forehead kiss and a moment when she’s shown sitting on his lap but in the whole movie Sara was not made to expose or do anything icky with Ranveer. The plot also reveals why he aimed to marry her but the treatment is what saves the scene.

Even in Saath Nibhana Saaathiya, Amar’s character had a huge age diff with his love interest in that show. He looked elder than Gopi and Ahem and romanced with Meera 💀 I thought that was more weird and odd than it was in Molki. Didn't watch Molki but from whatever I saw in the promos, the story demanded the age gap it was more believable than it was in Saathiya.

Based on whatever shows/movies I watched past or present, if the story demands it, the age gap can make sense. Like in Dhurandar, Yalina and Hamza’s age gap makes complete sense. And more importantly Yalina is a legal adult! However for Tumse Tum Tak, 18 and 45 is really way too much of an age gap! In Kasam, the concept was punar janam and they brought back Kratika, and since Kratika and Ssharad’s real life age gap wasn't that much their chemistry was loved! I so wish Kasam wasn't a punar janam show.

Also I realized some of the ITV couples I really loved had a huge age diff gap in the show like 10-20 💀(I m not very proud of it), for example in Zee I really loved Kasam Se and Guddan but the age gap is too much. Guddan leads real life age gap wasnt that much that's why their scenes were not uncomfortable.

However, I never liked the idea actresses below 18 in real life romancing with actors aged 25 or more. This is why I never connected with shows like Raabta and Barrister Babu and currently Rimjhim because they were showing scenes that required close proximity with actresses aged below 18.

Ironically, I do watch Seher, and I kinda feel guilty that I like that show and couple probably cause the actress is 24 in real life but whenever I recall the character’s age is 16 (which I often forget) I get uncomfortable when they try to show romantic scenes like why?!

So he still ends up with her despite the huge age gap. It’s looks even worse in the zee one because the fl has such a baby face, so it looks even more yucky. I saw the promo for another version. I think it was Bandai or Marathi one. The fl at least looked like an adult, so the age gap didn’t look so obvious unlike how it looks in the zee tv version

Somehow the more I read this the worse it gets.

Few I know who watch it say they watch it for the ml actor and the twists and turns are interesting, but the couple looks like father and daughter. I just can’t like the leads who look this way. The fl literally looks like a teenager and her acting is bad too. I saw the comments on Zee tv insta as insta and YouTube are where the neutral audience is, but they were loving this pedo couple. Glad its trp has gone down now

The leads have such a wonderful chemistry but casting is mismatch considering the character’s ages 😭 characters ke age ke wajah se getting all the hate. Kya hojata if they made Seher 21 and Mahid 27/28 smiley44they don't look like 16 and 22 at all! They wasted the potential and talent this show had so badly! And the story isnt even that bad but but the age is hard to digest.

Dono Choto bacho ko Kya Kya intense scenes Diya smiley39Aur Yahan Kyunki mai not a single couple getting such intense scenes smiley44

They wanted to sail on both boats, and the results is we all see. Idc how good the actors are or what intense scenes they are getting. I just hate the pedophilia it’s showing. Already millions of children suffer from this every year and this show is promoting it and normalizing it. And I know many shows have problematic stories/tracks, but pedophilia should be the limit. At least don’t normalize rape and abuse against children

I forgot Amar also played Gopi and Ahem’s damad smiley22But yeah, true. Never saw Molki either tbh with you.

I am rigid like that. If I like someone as an actor or actress I try to watch their shows because I believe I want to see what more they can do but I also end up comparing their chemistry with their previous costar which I obviously liked enough to become a fan and most of the times I found the whole thing lacking. Ironically, I think so far only Saakshi has made me watch a show where she was paired with a different guy - Ram in BALH - after KGGK. But I couldn’t for the life of me stand the both of them in that Alt Balaji show that had them essentially play Ram and Priya all over again. I could buy Ram as a 40 year old unmarried successful businessman who marries a 35 something woman who is a college professor or something iirc. But in no way could I buy Ram as a 40 something superstar with women being crazy about him with that physique and those chops. I mentally checked out like after 1 episode. If he had played a has been stuck in his head in his hay days of glory, I could have bought it but not this.

Kasam Se really made my head spin when I saw this IV of Ram Prachi when they were flying to Australia for an outdoor schedule. Prachi was a minor at the time and was falling a couple of months short to be allowed to fly on her own. Her parents had passport issues or something, can’t remember, but the bookings and all were made and the schedule was fixed. The only way Prachi could go on this shoot as the main lead was if she had an adult take on the responsibility of her as a guardian, who was flying too with her and would legally submit whatever the Australian embassy’s requirements were from a guardian to grant her the visa.

RAM WAS HER GUARDIAN. Her parents had to sign a letter authorising him as the guardian of their daughter and state he was being allowed to accompany their daughter to Australia as they trusted him and in turn Prachi be granted her visa since Ram was gonna be with her, with their consent.

HE PLAYED HER ONSCREEN HUSBAND.

That was just 🤯 for me… in a not so good way. They were laughing about it but it was just so… I still don’t have the words. Me! I write long posts like it’s the most natural and normal thing in the world to do!

Not a SM or KS fan so never saw Kasam.

Yeah in Dhurandhar they justify the pairing and also Dhar never makes us uncomfortable with the dynamic despite the obvious age gap between them. Rather, now I don’t see anyone discussing the age gap as much as how they wished those two had a happy ending together and how their phone call scene is being compared with Ghajini’s and called traumatising and better execution of romance than full fledged romantic movies in the past couple of years. That’s the power of good writing, acting, genuine chemistry and moreover the audience being able to feel invested in their characters and relationship; so much so that they forget the age gap completely being a problem before. We didn’t even get more than a handful of scenes between the two of them in the second movie and yet they managed to make us cry.

I am not saying that not showing a couple with age gap will suddenly make the world think oh, this is wrong and they’ll cease to exist. That’s not happening. But we shouldn’t at least glorify them is the point.

In Hamza and Yalina we see a tragic love story in the end, at no point is their age gap being celebrated or glorified. Rather, it’s been written in such a way that we don’t even remember to talk about it anymore and that’s down to Hamza never treating her in a way that makes us uncomfortable onscreen despite his obvious manipulations of using her as and when he could. We never saw him exploit her on a personal level. Like take the example of her coming to his home in the previous movie - once Rehman is rescued, he’s home and yes, he did blackmail her dad to get Rehman back; but once home he expects her to go back to her dad’s home. He understands the situation. A few hours of Yalina going missing weren’t gonna be as much of a problem as her staying with him; yet he never got her to do that. He cared about her to suggest she leave; but when she made the choice of wanting to stay with him, he simply never forced her to change her mind either. He respected her wishes and then married her as soon as possible so as to minimise the impact on her reputation as well as the reputation of her family while also advancing his own cause in parallel.

It was very easy to exploit the girl who may have happily stayed with him despite never getting married to him because she was so head over heels in love with him. He could have said we can’t marry because I can die blah blah blah, too poor for you. He could have said let’s marry without meeting your dad as we already live together, not like he had to do anything in a Muslim marriage ceremony as a father either. Once married, what could her dad do even if he didn’t accept them but sulk about it or at most get him killed if he was angry with him. Instead he does what he does - does it help his mission, yes, but also you never see him take an undue advantage of Yalina.

Even when he’s on a rampage in the second movie in the beginning in his backstory where he practically is a killing machine, he’s sure to never even look at a woman or a child in that place in a way that makes us sick and revolt. He’s focused and precise, in and out of there once he’s done doing what he wanted and got what he was looking for. That’s what makes his character someone even women are going gaga over. They’re not repulsed by what is associated with such gory characters usually. It’s why women can’t love Ranvijay from Animal but they love and adore both Jaskirat as well as Hamza from Dhurandhar series. The violent ways of these two maybe similar but their treatment of the women in their lives ranging from their mothers, sisters and wives is what sets them apart and why women love JSR/Hamza over Ranvijay and will continue to do so.

SK is a good actor but they should have promoted the show as a reincarnation revenge drama. It would’ve made the whole thing better and palatable. Now it’s too late.

Well I have watched all the episodes of this show and the biggest problem which I can't deny is the underage romance. Some scenes are very uncomfortable indeed. If all these scenes were not there or they at least made Seher’s age legal no one would have had a problem with it!

However, ML character Mahid is not a pedo and is badly misunderstood by those who don't watch the show. He is against underage marriage he doesn't even know his wife is 16, and has been told she is a legal adult. Though they haven't showed them getting physically intimate I was genuinely concerned what if they do that, but since the leap is coming soon they won’t.

When they show Mahid and Seher talk like two normal people and friends those scenes actually have good dialogues but wtf is with the waist grab and collar holding sorry I cant defend that. I am really curious to see how they handle the track where Mahid finds out Seher’s age, I really hope they show how disgusted he gets.

Actually my fav character in that show is Seher’s mom Kausar, most realistic character in that show all her concerns are genuinely valid, especially when she mentioned how things can get serious if a couple are alone in circumstances. I am completely team Kausar. I wish more moms were like her, and being completely against their daughter focusing on their married life when it's their age to study, enjoy life and instead support them to complete their education and fulfilling their career aspirations.
