Donald Trump has called on China, France, Japan, South Korea and the UK to send naval ships to force open the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump told NBC the “terms aren’t good enough yet” for a deal with Iran. He said he was still seeking Tehran’s commitment to abandon any nuclear weapons ambitions.
The US told its citizens to leave Iraq “immediately”, after the American embassy in Baghdad was hit.
A fire broke out at the strategically important port of Fujairah on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates after an attack was “successfully intercepted”, authorities said. The port is a hub for fuelling vessels outside the Strait of Hormuz on the Gulf of Oman.
Iran said it would attack energy infrastructure in the region owned by the US or in countries helping Trump’s war effort. The warning came after the US bombed Kharg Island, Iran’s oil-export hub. Iran’s foreign minister Iran’s Abbas Araghchi said the US’s “security umbrella” in the region was “full of holes”.
