Think of it.
Hritik was a slow, shielded (by virtue of being the youngest), a loner but sensible, sensitive boy who needed his family, mother's support, emotionally.
Hritik being supportive of Munni kindles a liking towards Hritik. In trying to share a social life and friendship, she fakes an account, befriends him, shares their deepest feelings. During these exchanges Munni develops feelings for him. She continues to lead him knowing well that Hritik only treats her (Munni) as a friend.
So, when the truth comes out, Hritik feels betrayed, almost mocked that Hritik was so dumb that he couldn't figure out it was Munni and that he was not capable of social interactions without her.
Tulsi only saw that he was not able to accept her social status, not fully knowing the background.
She enrolls her in a hostel and funds her education and this helps her become independent. It is the same Munni who Hritik enrolled in a night school which she gave up when faced with the first hurdle. So, her success may be attributed to her Leaving Shantiniketan and a scholarship by Tulsi.
Hritik has been unlucky in his life and his marriage has been miserable, making him even more vulnerable.
Munni returns as an IAS officer who is engaged to a fellow officer (who has known of Munni's past) and at the first encounter, though she stands up to Hritik, still harbours a soft corner. They have frequent encounters, albeit professionally, but the past is still not erased. These encounters, naturally trigger an insecurity in her fiancé and when she accepts Hritik's gift and wears it (saree), that too on Valentines Day, it serves as the final nail in the coffin of an already dying relation.
It appears as though she was never over Hritik. Munni tries to play the victim that she never was. She used the misunderstanding to gaslight Rahul and get out of the commitment and potentially get back with her first love, Hritik.
Hritik was in a bad marriage. He was in it because of Timsy. Mitali was never a hands-on mom. When he met Munni, he realised what he lost but it was never shown if he made any advances to her. Hritik falling in "love" with Munni immediately after his divorce, however, also is indigestable.
That said, it is Munni who took the decisions first, on her own accord. Not under anyone's influence.
I agree with you analysis of Ritik, he is the most vulnerable son of the house and lost his way in life after Munni, Angad and Tulsi leaving, all who were close to him.
He gets hatred for being rude to Munni about the social status on all, but its overlooked that Munni catfished him, when he already had low self confidence. Also if roles were reversed Ritik as house help would have gotten more flake for catfishing Munni. I went rewatched that particular scene, he did seem to settle down a bit when Tulsi scolded Munni to protect her.
He then made bunch of bad decisions marrying Mitali, having a kid, staying with her for 6 years.
The writers missed the mark on maybe highlighting scenes on how Mitali and Ritik had a bad relationship over the years and missed the mark on how Munni survived alone during those 6 years and how she and Rahul got together.
My only issue is the fast tracked of the divorce and MunRik marriage, they could have built up to all of this to make it realistic.
But if I were to put that aside to bad writing or using them to move the story forward and get everyone back to SN.
Their vada pav and mehendi scenes were good. Especially the Vada Pav scene, because it was them returning to their true essence before the 6 years and fight in between them. I always saw Ritik as the golden retriever lover, which he became and Munni became more confident in herself.
this fight just seems too much blown out of proportion..
