Sorry to butt in, but just wanted to say that channels intervening before the show goes on air to change both or one of the leads by watching mock footage is a pretty normal thing and done for long.
Not many people know this but Cezanne Khan of KZK fame was the first choice for Raman of YHM and once Divyanka and Ruhanika were cast as well as some other key cast members they did a mock shoot for a couple of episodes. The channel felt he was a misfit for the role and had Ekta recast Raman and that’s when she called Karan Patel. The channel felt a man as bitter as Raman was supposed to be had to look and sound a certain way, and they felt Cezanne lacked in some ways. They were right and we know YHM went onto become one of Balaji’s longest running and successful shows. So not all intervention is bad.
It’s not akin to the practice that Netflix and other OTT giants and producers are doing in the West. If you ever followed The Good Place you may know of the actress Jameela Jamil who played Tahani on the show. She gave an interview to someone for a media outlet, I can’t remember whom, and she said that the writers were given instructions to include scenes where the characters had to talk about the happenings of the show and everything they could as many times as possible and include as many descriptions as possible not for visually impaired or challenged viewers, but viewers who would be glued to their phones or doing chores with the show playing in the background.
That’s why you have such scenes happening a lot in so many shows that are direct to OTT or movies as well. They’re being asked to dumb down as they feel attention span has reduced significantly among the audience. Not that they wanna make content so gripping that it demands attention, they’re moulding themselves to accommodate the audience being hooked on social media or games or whatever chores.
So rather an intervention that leads to casting change as it feels integral to the show for whatever reasons, than the intentional dumbing down of content.
Once again, you don't need to apologize every time you reply to/quote my comments.
I think you missed a comment I made later. As long as everything is done in an ethical and proper manner, I have no issues.
Yes, I'm aware about the change in cast for YHM.
In fact CHARMED - which is one of my all time favorite shows, I know they filmed the pilot episode and then scrapped it followed by the casting of Alyssa Milano as Phoebe.
So no, I have no issues against the makers or the channel in general when they start working on a project, do mock shoots and other stuff.
BUT, it's also a fact that these days channel put a lot of pressure on the makers, often going out of the way and forcing them to change the storyline overnight just to survive in the rat race of TRP.
Yes, from a business perspective, that is how it's done. But when you force a major change in a creative process, majority of the time it backfires.
It's one thing to scrap a couple of episodes and an entirely different thing to lock someone, start the promotion and then scrap several episodes. This only showed their stupidity and laziness that they let something go on for quite some time, only to intervene at the eleventh hour, making an embarrassing situation for the actress.
Ultimately, it's their product. They can do whatever the hell they want to do with it. If it's good, I'll definitely appreciate the new actress and the show.
For now, I'm not interested in it anymore.
