UPW Women Innings

19.5 de Klerk to Simran Shaikh, OUT

Holes out to long on, and de Klerk has four! Another attempted yorker that does not quite land where de Klerk wants it to. A low full toss outside off but all Simran manages is a swat straight to Reddy at long on. de Klerk now the holder of the Purple Cap, and UPW are eight down!

Simran Shaikh c Reddy b de Klerk 10 (11b 1x4 0x6) SR: 90.9

Some teams are painfully unlucky, UPW-W is one of them 🥲

De Clerk has managed to take 14 wickets this season — most by any RCB bowler in a single WPL season.

UPW Women Innings

19.6 de Klerk to Pandey, no run

Back of a length just outside off. Pandey shuffles across and then misses her lap. Impact on the pad but that impact is a mile outside off. But RCB, in keeping with their DRS shenanigans, go upstairs again. And there will be an umpire review for a stumping too, apparently. No chance of Pandey being trapped lbw and the replays say as much. There was a slight moment when Pandey did not know where the ball had gone and had wandered out, but she regained her ground before Ghosh took off the bails. UPW finish on 143!

Well, it took a while for that innings to officially come to a conclusion. A tale of two halves, but no prizes for guessing who will be the happier side at this stage. UPW got off to a solid start, courtesy Lanning and Deepti, but the former's dismissal triggered a slow-down that UPW just could not recover from. Deepti got herself a half-century but never threatened the sort of overdrive that would have pushed UPW past 150.

RCB will be pleased with their efforts. They failed to take a wicket in the powerplay for the first time this season but utilized their middle-overs smarts to tie UPW down. de Klerk was the star of the show, with Bell and Harris also chipping in, alongside Radha and Shreyanka. Stranger things have happened in this sport but at the half-way mark, RCB will be pretty confident of sealing their berth in the final.

Adil: An Innungs that threatened to take off but never did. Kinda like the whole UPW campaign tbh. — this comment summarizes their whole season. People kept waiting for them to fire, but expect for short bursts, they couldn’t keep the fire going.

A tale of two halves and RCBW will back themselves to chase this score down and ensure their place in the final. It didn't look that way when the two new set of openers added 74 for the first wicket. Meg Lanning was the aggressor and she took on the bowlers, finding boundaries after a sedate start. At the other end, Deepti Sharma who was opening for the first time held firm and the Warriorz looked good for a big total. Nadine de Klerk struck twice in her first over and slowed down the Warriorz's charge. It didn't help that Deepti was starved off strike and that did cost them some serious momentum. As the ball softened, RCBW went for the scrambled seam and mixed it with cutters and slower ones, making stroke-making difficult. Grace Harris, bowling for the first time in this season then chipped in with a couple of wickets. So 143 it is and the Warriorz need to do something special if they're to stay alive in the tournament.
