Mannat's trauma stems from her own past. She has a history of rejections. She herself was rejected by her own bio mother on her birth, then she was rejected by Vikrant at the altar despite multiple promises and at the end, their child also got rejected by Vikrant. Mannat despite Shruti raising her like her own kid, never got over sonia's rejection, it still pricks her, esp when she sees how ars pampers malla, thats why she doesn't want Dua to suffer same fate as hers. She knows DK well, she knows he is a good man and loves Dua like his own. Her verbal assurances to DK that he is a good father are kind of her way to assure herself that despite getting rejected by her bio father, Dua still has father's love in her life. In this way, mannat sees Shruti and DK in same light. Both of them have kept their personal life at the backseat to raise their sibling's kid, this itself is a huge sacrifice one can do. Mannat herself never had a father figure in her life until she met Gagan, so she has little knowledge about it, but she sees Dua with Dk and can truly feel that she is loved and cherished how a daughter supposed to by her father. She simply doesnt want Dua to live scarred life as hers.
About Mannat looking defeated and scared, she should be. No normal human can stay sane if one suffers through so much. Just like how Vikrant didn't get time to process things, even Mannat didn't. She isn't some superwoman to take sustain through every tragedy happily. People wont realise how deeply traumatizing it is to be left at the altar by the person you genuinely love and trust. She secretly got married to him, slept with him, she trusted him with all her heart but at the end, got betrayed. She agrees she was wrong to hide things from him and she apologized to him multiple times, but she never thought the ever gentle Vikrant will become this cruel to her and his loved ones. Add onto that he repeatedly kept character assasinating her with his own older brother. She wouldnt have been this affected if this would've been someone else, but his own elder brother who was nothing but a support for both of them. This also shows how Vikrant has such poor judgement and low thinking about her. He called her opportunist, gold digger, compared her to Malla, a criminal. It seemed to her that all these things were suppressed in him and finally he let it all out. How traumatizing is that? Then he went onto throw them all out. Vikrant she knew was moralistic and empathetic no matter what. This Vikrant was really someone else. Without caring about the world, he cut off his parents whom he worshipped and the woman he loved.
The final nail in the coffin was Shruti, her mother's death. The fact that her mother's last wish was them recounciling and thats why she went to meet him and then died, is enough to break her. Still she waited for him. She had that tiny hope that he will come, but he didnt. He was late. In all this mess, she found out she was pregnant. Carrying a new life within you while your whole life is all over the place and the one who nurtured your life is dead, how haunting it is? On top of that, Vikrant came and made the mess bigger. Her mother's pyre was burning and he just came to add more salt on the wounds rather than tending them.
All these happenings in the same day are enough to change a person completely. To not to fall apart, Mannat turned her entire attention towards her kid, Dua. She had a person who was with her through thick and thin even when there wasnt any need for him to do that. She had her old in- laws who gave her parental love. Mannat who was scarred by the outer world created her own little world in these 7 years and now she doesnt wanna step out of it. She is afraid that just like how her own past, ars, stumbled into her life, Vikrant will do the same. She saw him being erratic and destructive, it ruined her life. It took her long to rebuild herself and her people bit by bit, she doesnt wanna suffer again. Thats why she chooses to keep them protected by avoiding Vikrant all together. Vikrant means destruction for her. All of them have suffered the brunts of his anger, even her unborn child. Now she doesnt wanna walk that same path again. She just wants peace in her world.
I will never understand itv stans biased, selective feminism. When female lead is alone, then only she is strong but if she has a man with her whom she has gained based on trust, she is weak? Shouldnt be a woman celebrated for gathering her broken pieces and rebuilding her life after such brutal trauma? Shoudnt she be praised for managing her life and raising such a thoughtful kid? Why should be Mannat's entire personality is made about DK? Mind you, that man also doesnt treat her like a glass doll. He just supports her. He goes on the backfoot when she decides or leads. Isnt it praiseworthy? Sorry to say but hardly any woman will survive what Mannat has survived. I dont mind if people view her as weak, she is a mother now who is choosing a peaceful life for herself, her child and her family who have suffered enough.
