Rajya Sabha is for the people who are not popular enough to contest elections and win but their expertise in certain domains are needed for helping shape policies. Look at Jaishankar, he’s a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat and we know what he delivers.. but winning elections is not his thing. Meenakshi Jain was included as well this term and she is an eminent historian who has debunked a lot of crazy propaganda theories that have been around for far too long. She will be instrumental in bringing new reforms in education policies and particularly the curriculum for history as a subject.

Giving Smriti the ticket to Rajya Sabha is akin to ending her political career. It says that the party thinks she won the previous election in a fluke but she is not capable of winning again. Right now she’s not in an official position anywhere but she is not made a pariah either.

She’s laying low as is Annamalai who is a very popular candidate too in his own right. When the time is right they will be asked to step up again… right now Annamalai has been asked to be diplomatic as getting a win in Tamil Nadu is essential to get a foot in. Similarly, BJP really messed up Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra in the general elections big time and they must thank their stars that Orissa pulled through for them. Smriti obviously was contesting from UP, so they’re not going to ignore what went wrong. They are obviously working behind the scenes to know what happened, why and who all were responsible for the sabotage internally and for what reasons.

Smriti has not been dropped completely… else how do you explain her pulling Bill Gates for that cameo. Without the backing/approval of the two big bosses at the top, she’s not going to get someone from that league to do a cameo for her show either.
