Rakshanda replied fast. Good to see everyone having fun unlike you know who

The creator did a tough job man. Probably watched all the 1700+ epis properly, made that edit, cut their faces and his commentary. Dude must be getting so much motivation

They know Ekta is chill and can take jokes on her show and so they can laugh and make fun of their own shows.

I agree. At least one day, maximum two days like rest of the work force around the world is a must for rest and recuperation, for the actors and for the audience.

They can either air movies/old episodes or reality shows which air on weekends in the one day rest if they are concerned about the business aspect. Even for reality shows the shooting must follow the 8hr/5-6 days per week schedule.

Also the demand for 8hr shift is completely valid. There are days when actors don't get to rest a complete 12 hrs, because they need to turn up for shoot after reaching home at odd hours.

Ngl, they are heavily paid for their time but it doesn't mean the industry treats them like slaves.

Government turns a blind eye because the taxes are heavily levied and paid by the television and movie industry. But they should start being cognizant of what happens behind the screens imo.

This happens due to TRP and I guess that is one of the main factors that needs to be re-calibrated. OTT/on air/recap, all modes of airing should be taken into consideration as a start, instead of considering only a minute population, which is unreliable. Good shows have gone off air because of this system.

Sorry, if i did not word it well enough.

The facts remains that commerce runs everything.

There are 24 hour channels. Each channel has nothing but 5-6 shows during the week and may be 7-8 shows including weekend-only shows which run on repeat 3 times a day for each timezone.

Most shows are eternally running (7 days a week) because they are commercially viable because the ROI will probably only be if the show runs for a certain duration and frankly, they serve as an insurance of employment for the duration it airs. Besides, every show has to keep a bank of episodes to sustain airing. When a show airs everyday for such durations, is there a scope for plot development and writing? The quality of shows are a testimony to how much it has downgraded.

Look at the flip side of it:

1. Tell me, will we wait 1 week to watch the next episode of a show like we did in the past? Can we hold audiences?

2. May be a solution is, a set of limited episode series? But then, is that not a hit to the producers and behind-the-scene staff whose jobs won't be secure? (Have limited knowledge of this, hence cannot comment)🤷🏻‍♀️.

Now coming to the 8-hour shifts

Laws are the prescription, but subscribing to the prescription is a choice.

If an A-grade actor is making such demands in an industry which is heavily dependent on a number of factors, it is backed by years of struggle and 15-16 hour shifts (by their own choice) that has created a credibility and public standing that will make people heed to it.

In case the actor insists on working 8 hours a day, he/she should be fine with working on 1 project (1 movie/1 show) at any time. Does that happen? Can that happen?

Prescribing a certain work duration is one thing, but it has to be well thought out and in the best interests of everyone involved. And an ideal world does not exist.

The only thing we can do, in my opinion is to ensure working conditions are given utmost importance and inculcate a value system that is built on empathy and mutual respect. That will solve everything else.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood. I was of the opinion that your post supported 8-hour shifts. 😅

Yes, commerce does indeed run everything. Everyone has an objective to earn money. I don’t think entertainment should be social service, nor do I believe it is.

But just because you pay someone, you don’t own them or get to not give a damn about their rest or physical, emotional, and mental health.

After a hectic shoot of 12–14 hours, they’ll be hard-pressed to care about anything else. I know they sign up knowing the difficult hours; still, there must be a certain level of empathy.

@bold: I don’t know about now, but there were very successful shows that aired on weekends. Audiences can be held if the plotline is suitably engaging enough.

@violet: Agreed. But empathy takes a hard beating in a face-off against money usually. If producers had actual empathy, I don’t think actors would have such rigorous schedules. It is even more difficult for the spot/set dadas, who have to pack up after them and arrive before them for the shoot. After working 16–17 hours, how much time do they have left for their personal lives?

Laws are framed keeping everyone in mind. An actor expecting to work 8 hours shouldn’t be allowed to take multiple shows at a time—like moonlighting in professional sectors. Yes, I know it’s an unstable industry with zero job security. Like all professional industries, it should have a notice period, at least a heads-up, severance pay, etc. Acting is also a profession, so why isn’t it treated that way?

Because they chose a profession that might be a tad unstable, should it mean they have to enslave themselves to it?

I know my demands are probably suited to an ideal world, but asking for reasonable working hours shouldn’t be a privilege.
