Why do you think the mass circuits don’t like Ranveer? On screen he actually pulls off those roles even better than Ranbir, and he looks like any average Indian guy, so it’s not a relatability issue either. Is it the whole off screen cuckold/clown image he’s built for himself that makes the mass audience see him as weak?

I think its a problem with the new-gen actors, in general.

The mass circuits still prefer to see Sunny Deol or SRK, the 90s superstars.

In particular when it comes to Ranveer Singh, it must be mentioned that the testosterone, macho man image matters a lot for the mass circuits. That is what they want to see.

Ranveer Singh has girly fashion choices, and was seen wearing a bra in his last film, RRKPK. Box Office India dissed him for it at the time, but it is true: these type of scenes will ruin his connect with the mass audience.

Just a month after that film's release, Sunny Deol came roaring like a lion in Gadar 2.

The results were there to be seen: RRKPK finishes with lifetime collections of just 100 cr nett in India, while Sunny's Gadar 2 collects 500 cr nett!!

all assumptions. its only matter of a well made action film. before animal Ranbir wasn't even considered/imagined as an action hero. the guy did pretty well in animal. if dhurandhar has an engaging screenplay its gonna be a superhit.

he just had one fluck with Vanga, and his Pr doing the rest. he is still in the same zone as ranveer.

it was performance oriented and he was superb. he was convincing in action scenes as well. i am not saying he will be able to repeat it or not.

It wasn't a fluke, imo (relative to his performance)...I bet he harbours a looot of issues and frustrations inside and really could connect to the character and the resulting agressivity.

However, I agree with the testosterone-heavy (because predominently male) audience. It still mainly are the males in a family/realtionship who decide about going to the movies.

Dhurandhar has a very male Ranveer but not in a Gadar, Animal or Baaghi way but more rooted in the mission assigned to him... fashion wise, he already adjusted... as for the 'clown'-behaviour (I would call it exuberance) - it is obviously something that will always be part of painting a superficial and negative image about him...

Ok that’s interesting. I think his wife being a bigger star kills his mass appeal too. For the masses, their hero has to look like the ultimate alpha, and Ranveer comes off weaker next to Deepika in every aspect. The only pair I see breaking that mold is RK-Alia and even with them, I feel like eventually one will have to step back…. soon.
