I think the X factor is missing in the entire new generation. It’s not just the positive characters but the negative ones too. I mean take a look at Kyunki itself that has had such fantastic performances from even the actors who have played negative roles be it Payal, Sejal, Mandira to Tripti and Ansh, who is perhaps the biggest villain of the show. Even when we talk about characters who could be considered grey as they were never consistently evil nor continued to be good forever be it Savita, Tanya and later Bhoomi.
All the actors were fabulous, we could hate them because they inspired those emotions within us.
The most this generation does is annoy us and that’s more to do with how inconsistent the characters are and how monotonous the acting is. Kinda sucks that this generation cannot even produce a decent negative character played by a good actor.
I mean look at Ansh, Shasha, Yudi - 3 different characters, 3 different actors and 3 different shows - all of them were negative and yet are still iconic because of the combination of good writing, perfect casting and exceptional performances by actors so brilliant that we wanted to see their characters get slapped, beat and killed; and enjoyed when it happened too.
I doubt we would even enjoy watching Pari getting her just dues because the actress and the character just don’t make an impact.
Noyna is the main negative character and yet they’re presenting her more like Rekha from Silsila who lost her love to Jaya for no fault of hers rather than Rekha IRL who still publicly pines for a much married man, which makes her pathetic and truthfully disgusting rather than some sort of tragic diva who was born to suffer.
Barkha as a veteran actress can perhaps pull off the complete negative turn of her character too, but these writers aren’t even going there yet! That’s the problem. They have an able actress but they refuse to give her the material that would make us want to root for her downfall just because we hate her so. Right now Noyna doesn’t inspire hate as much as disgust and anger, but not hate. Especially when they make it seem like Mihir slept with her, is giving her mixed signals and she’s simply trying to make the most of his mixed signals while refusing to be discarded as a tissue paper he can use and throw away. She irks us as viewers but we can’t help but understand her feelings about her refusal to let Mihir use and throw her away. There’s nothing wrong with her wanting to hold Mihir accountable… which is the problem. She can’t be considered evil if she’s got a valid reason to make Mihir jump through hoops regardless of her methods.
They need to be clear about what they want and deliver upon the same.
