Overdramatic Indian Soap Opera Slap on Make a GIF

Has Indian TV lost its charm? Why are viewers disengaged today?

There was a time when Indian TV serials kept us glued to the TV screen.

iss pyaar ko kya naam doon – The IPKKND Ficverse

We used to wait eagerly for the next episode, have nonstop discussions about the characters like they were one of us, and even fight over our favourite jodis!

Anandi and Shiv - Balika Vadhu - Anandi and Shiv - Balika Vadhu Balika Vadhu 4th July 2012 Written Episode DS knocking on the door but Anandi is not opening it, and

But in recent years, something has changed… Is it because of ....

Repetitive plots and endless storylines ?

Too much drama, too little logic ?

Lack of strong character development ?

Unrealistic portrayals and sudden twists?

Focus on TRPs instead of storytelling ?

Many viewers say they no longer feel connected to the characters. The emotional bond is fading. People have stopped discussing serials with the same excitement, like they did earlier, and many have shifted to OTT shows or international content.

What do you think caused this decline in interest? Please share your views.

Do you still follow Indian TV serials regularly? If yes, then what are those?

Are there still any shows worth watching today? Please share...

What changes would bring back the golden era of TV?

Has OTT taken over completely? Or is there still hope for Indian television?

Why are we no longer able to relate to TV characters?

We once lived with our favourite characters like Arnav & Khushi, Anandi & Shiv, and many iconic jodis who made us laugh, cry, and believe in love. We felt their emotions, followed their journeys, and carried them in our hearts. But today, such memorable characters are rare. Stories end, but the connection is missing.

Why can’t we find that magic anymore? Are characters being written just to fill episodes, not to live in our memories?

Let's talk about those unforgettable jodis, and why we still miss them and prefer to recall those memories whenever we talk about past serials!!

I mean itv producers have no money that's why they are casting minor girls now and making them to sensual scenes.

The actors who could work well and looked good moved onto better pasture, or they are happy being side actors in shows. And these shows are very limited. Majority goes off air within 6 months.

Funnily no producers write a story keeping in mind how to end a story on a satisfactory note even if channel goes off air. Not like suddenly these channels started to do. Its going on since many years especially for star plus serials. Producers cry but they don't want to change themselves

Smaller demographic don't care about whatever going on in shows. My colleague who's 20 years old watching kyuki s2 and we all know it's going to shit. Itv always have that impact which will bring new audience. They can't do right by these audience and audience is fine watching shit

Also i think channels are also in the mood of chalta hai. They can very well dub old shows and air it to foreign countries. They did for shows like ipk. But now they are more busy to remove shows from.hostar than actually working on content

India television has lost its charm for several reasons..I agree with all the points you have mentioned. But I believe rise of OTT and boring plots and poor execution are the major reasons for this downfall.

Earlier we used to discuss about the shows, characters and missed episodes with our friends. Nowadays the shows are not worthy of any discussion. As you can already see very few people are talking about shoes in this platform. Many are just coming only for their friends.

The storyline is very predictable now a days..some shows are running for years without any head and tail. Some are going off air before it reaches the audiences. The makers are unable to attract modern viewers. Majority of the viewers are elderly people who watches serials on TV.

Sorry, if anyone is hurt...it's my take on ITV as everyone told over here... Sorry, if anyone is hurt...it's my take on ITV as everyone told over here...

Till today I have watched few shows after 2008 ...but to my dismay nothing changed much ... Exceptionally I shifted towards Sony TV in 2020 ... Sony TV tried hard to cater a good taste of shows but the barrier you know is...TRP system..

Barely such shows get ratings ...(it's an inverse relationship of TRP and content)

Specially I would like to say there is no change in star Plus content rather the time Sony TV was catering public with their progressive storyline I couldn't tell as it's rule) star Plus came out with more regressive content as I heard ...

I stopped watching Star after one year of yhm ...it badly disappointed me with those tracks...

Star, I believe can never change from "SaaS Bahu " and EMA, or step sister fighting over one lover...they can't do more than this...

But exceptionally they tried to make "POW", "Keh Doon Tumhe", "Rudrakaal" kind of thrillers as well ... "Everest", "Tammana"...at least they tried to come out of the Box...but again they couldn't survive...and it's TRP which lagged them behind SaaS Bahu shows...

It's really saddening theat they brought Kyunki2 reboot ...with OG nostalgia characters but building up a story without cheap tactics can't let them survive in race less than a month it's fact....

otherwise the chars are really well put up with both the gen in one frame...

I won't totally discard the ITV of today. The actors are still better than that what bollywood is offering whether in terms of physical appearance or acting skills. ITV can still serve the cliche and soothing romance if it wants, an art bollywood has totally forgotten in their chase of copying cinematic universe.

The only major problem in ITV today is that they don't write a consistent storyline and character sketches. The redemption and groveling by leads isn't enough. 3rd angles used to exist earlier also and they were much more pathetic and evil but that's the thing they were openly evil and audience used to wait for their expose and thrashing by leads and their families. But nowadays the writers are writing in such a way to generate unnecessary sympathy which disconnect with audience. The lead heroines were so fierce and had their revenge in style which was so inspiring as well as entertaining to watch. All these things are missing in today ITV .
