Hi,
I am just back from a viewing of Sarkar Raj ......and honestly, I had no expectations after the kind of disasters RGV has been coming up with ...But yes , I have always been a fan of his "Rangeela", "Company" and "Sarkaar" kind of film-making ... and yeah , even Bhoot was supercool.....
RGV is not a consistent thinker.... he is not a streamlined director and he is definitely not a permanent genius.... but yes, he has this peculiar brand of fiery talent which sparks now and then .... and the films that I have mentioned above are a product of that .... and perhaps Sarkar Raj is one of them....So, here's a comment on RGV's latest work....
THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN THE FILM SHOULD NOT READ THIS REVIEW . 😆
First thing, Sarkar Raj is not a great film..... there are no great films, actually... there are just great characters and great moments which make them....Sarkar Raj is the continuation of the journey of the Nagre family as a bunch of powerlords.....Gold-hearted rogues who rule by the stick and start thinking where you and I stop thinking..... Subhash Nagre (AB) , the original powerlord gives his power reins in the hands of his fiery, powermatic and authoritative son Shankar......and Shankar weilds power and how ..... he reminds you of the famous adage ...."No matter how many sons and daughters a man and a woman bear....there is just one heir.... just one hero".....Shankar slips into the royal robes of his father like a dash of butter.....but there are chinks in his armour....
Shankar's brilliant brain and progressive revolutionary thinking is marred by an impulsive concluding nature and his refusal to take his father's experience in hand .... and it is his short-sightedness and leaking trust that pushes him towards his tragic end....It is heart -rending seriously......A life so powerful , so vital , so full of potential cut short by the sword of destiny.....
But Shankar's death is a turning point ..... it brings the till now reticent and laid back Subhash Nagre... the original lion back in the groove as he very coolly avenges the death of his son .....and recovering from the tragedy decides that the destiny of Nagre family is welfare of society ... and the legacy has to go on....
Anita remains a lamb-like specatator most of the time... she is a white lamb caught in the murky waters of politics, ambition and deceit played by the villains and her own father ....by the time she gets a grip of things and grows close to the Nagre family , fate plays a cruel prank on her... the moment where Shankar is with her and he is to confess that she is his lifeline ...the one who will be his support ... he is mercilessly shot dead in front of her eyes.... an incident that hardens her and changes her life .....It is amazing how towards the end of the film , as Subhash Nagre gets his grandson back to be his next heir .... Anita takes Shankar's place....a responsibility towards her dead beloved and his family, a vow to live her life in the shoes of the man she loved.....
Sarkar Raj has all the elements of an urban political film with it's share of violence but it has an underlying spirit .... the human spirit that talks about strenghth, weakness, life, death, love, hatred, ambition, deceit and all that we human beings are capable of .....
When you leave the theatre , you have some sequences stuck in your head...
- The tragic death of Shankar's pregnant wife Avni ( amazingly shot ) .
- The Nagre family meeting Rao Saahab and Shankar's attitude over there...
- Shankar and Anita's moment of confession and Shankar's assasinaion there and then...( amazing lighting , awesome performance by Abhi-Ash)
- The unravelling of the real culprit behind the pawns...
- Subhash Nagre returning to the power seat and getting his grandson back....
- The last shot of Anita which is the last shot of the film and it amazes you .... can people actually give up their whole life in the name of love?
That was my comment and thanks for reading it. I was impressed with SR...so, i wrote it. It is not a review .😆.....Don;lt go by reviews and others' opinion ... I don't even know how it will fare a the box office , nor do I care.
A good film stays a good film and you cannot take that away from it.
Thanks
