Besieged Darkness
PART 1

“I am besieged by such strange thoughts, such dark sensations, such obscure questions, which crowd my mind – and somehow I have neither the strength nor the desire to resolve them." ~Fyodor Dostoyevsky ~
There are different kinds of darkness. There is the darkness that frightens, the darkness that soothes, the restful darkness. You can picture each in this night, one man in armour, to face each.
There is the darkness of lovers and the darkness of assassins in this one night. It becomes what the bearer wishes it to be, or what it needs to be. It is neither wholly bad nor wholly good.

This was the night when he decided to give her his mark on her forehead, a bindi was the start. Her smile, her happiness, her nervousness, all pleased him; an unknown feeling was budding, taking root to make her His...
But his joy, desires, playfulness, and longing for the love that he felt for the first time were allured by the darkness after hearing about her sister's accident. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration, and that was his dilemma, his darkest fear. Losing someone he loves so much. His sister was like his mother, the only real family he ever had.

This is a devastated 14-year-old boy whose life never progressed after his mother's sudden death. Anjali makes him understand with moving words, " Whom you love the most, and the ones who are so close to your heart, you must not let them go. If sometimes some foolish and pointless thoughts come to you, still you should listen to your heart."
And he followed his heart to tell his Khushi how much she mattered to him.

He smiled and caught up with her thoughts, pressing them between his own. The touch of his desire was like white fire through his veins. He could feel her skin in his palm, and yet a mere feeling kindled him, heap of ashes that he was at the moment, into this fire of love. He never believed in such feelings and then wondered why love was always phrased in terms of burning. The conflagration in his own veins, now, answered. That feeling was mutual.
But time was not on their side.
The night was not for them.

“There is only one kind of shock worse than the totally unexpected: the expected for which one is not fully prepared.”― Mary Renault.
He was ready to open the door of his heart, and the moment he did, everything got frozen in the air. There was a sight he had never expected, never anticipated. He stood there nonplussed to register the fact that the only vision he had was seeing his girl in his brother-in-law's arms, and the only sound he could hear was "Leave Anjali!"
He looked at them appalled, with wide-open eyes, unable to decipher them momentarily. He stood there speechless, watching this undeniable scene that robbed his faith, his trust and his credence in anything further.

The shock started to seep in along with a knock-out confusion, like a bolt of thunder...
Slowly, his eyes began to register the meaning, and his mind grasped the vehemence of this vision beyond belief. "Chhap gaya hai."
He turned around without interrupting the two, without knowing or looking into his woman's condition, whose heart's fluttering he could feel and hear right next to him constantly. Today, he couldn't feel or recognise any beat of it. I wonder how and why not? All he could register was her being in Shyam's arms and her asking Shyam to leave his wife. But the great ASR couldn't feel the tone of her voice, her body language or the demeanour she was displaying here. Maybe the confusion took over all the senses and the feelings at the moment. It was not that convincing for me, a daily soap thing, I guess.

The longest and the heaviest walk he ever had to his den. Tossing off his jacket and tie, he paced off back and forth, trashing down all of his sweet moments with Shyam. He got birched once again by his past, a slashing whip across his bruised soul. An image of his betrayed father, in the form of Shyam, ran through his eyes.
"Hum sirf aapko chahte hain, khushi ji, hum ranisahiba ko apni patni nahin mantey..." Shyam's declaration drifts through the night.[I only want you, Khushi ji; I don't consider Ranisahiba my wife...]
The world shattered around him once again, but the final whip in Khushi's incriminating words finished him like no one else.
"Agar aap ke liye yeh rishta koi maine nahin rakhta to aap yeh shadi tod kun nahin dete... chhor dijiye anjali ji ko..." [if this marriage means nothing to you, then why don't you break this marriage... leave anjali ji!!]
.
A sweeping crossfire of events enfiladed his mind, and his heart bled, but he was a man of action. Holding his face in his hands, he cried his heart out to clear his clouded mind.

Everything seemed clear with a challenge to face and let his sister walk through as well. Her safety and dignity were all he had in his mind. As the human brain works slowly, the blow is felt first, and hours afterwards, the bruise appears. Something deep inside of a human speaks with the voice of a psycho: For who could ever love a beast? A beast he was at the moment.
He wanted to settle the score with Shyam, but again, why didn't he barge in there on the terrace during their moment to explode on both of them together, or ask Khushi first???
So he ended up with Shyam, who took a new route, making things more complicated.
He entered Shyam's room in a state of uncontrollable anger.
Gritting teeth, darting eyes and ripping pain through his chest, ASR said, "My sister gave you so much respect, but Khushi and you have together deceived us, for which I ..

The sharp, sly move Shyam made instantly made him realise that ASR didn't know about Khushi and his clear image, or he didn't speak to her, so he took over ASR's mind and twisted it further. Psychologically, he destroyed the peace in ASR, knowing his anger would take over, and there would be no Arnav and Khushi, as seeing them together was sabotaging his plan to get Khushi for himself instead.
A lechery and lustful man was challenging a heart that started beating over the woman who was no less than a cheater now. Shyam painted this picture on ASR's brain further with different colours that refused to recognise any beat in his heart.

Shym's claim of his love, pyar for Khushi and worse, that only Rani Sahiba is between them, did the drum roll event in his brain; the poor heart's pleas weren't able to compete any further.
The last word, "Rani Sahiba", gave the game a new turn... Now, there was no lover in that turned look of ASR; this was a protected brother of his sister, and he would let nothing happen to her. Maybe that was the first instinct ASR felt up there on the terrace as well: Shyam, as a man, as a deceiver, and Khushi, a woman, as a gold digger who was deceiving his sister.

With his persona entirely composed, ASR came across as a protector of his sister, yet Khushi saw him first and calmed down after finding him. She wanted to tell him everything, but had no idea that their worlds had been flipped.
He looked back at her, nostrils flaring, having a war within, and war was all about saving his love. Love for his sister, who meant the world to him. He couldn't let this love snatch away from his being, either, which he had for this girl who was in front of him. Undeniable fact... his eyes tilted when memories cut through him sharply... how much he'd desired her, wanted to kiss her, danced with her holding within his arms, and jolted her with the fear of losing her.
He greeted with his teeth clenched in intense pain, almost a grimace gathering in his eyes. Her deceptive words,"Leave Anjaliji", echoed in his soul, and a dark, thickening air started building up a storm to destroy everything in its path. His hands clenched into a tight fist, the angst and fury evident.
He walked towards her, perhaps wanting to drag her to the poolside and give her hell and fire, but his di's voice stopped him... and more of him knew the night had another game stored for him.

Ah, the sly and the slave here
Shyam used his mind to play his tactics but he couldn't separate them. The biggest defeat ever. God has his own plans.
I will be back, this needs some attention and discussion.

I love what you said that why on earth he didn't feel her fluttery heart and anger, and fear which he always felt, especially on her engagement night. But not tonight why?
But you gave the answers, daily soap, his protective nature towards his sister.Beautiful written post and visuals uff!
Di, I am in an awe state looking at the creations you have here. Just a feast to our eyes.
The pain, heartbreak, and the angst was at the top of the chart and the love was kinda lost somewhere. I must say, Barun nailed this night. The night was aching itself seeing the both in such miserable state of mind and heart.

I love you have both scenes together in one
His hugging her and her saying leave Anjali. This moment has such an impact on his brain that he couldn't think or feel anything further.
