They are bringing Mihir gen people because this season story revolves around Mihir and tulsi solely. The younger gen Angad vrinda Pari mitali are also important but still the centre of attraction is Mihir tulsi dynamics only. Maybe Amar Smriti are also not comfortable playing Dada dadi of big kids whereas them being parent to Angad Hritik Pari doesn't look odd .
If they will bring the same damini Ganga Tripti actors of season one the age difference will look awkward and scenes unconvincing just like how it looks when Hiten Karan refers a young looking Amar as Papa. This could also be the reason why they aren't giving screen time to Karan Nandini with Tulsi and Mihir and there's no progress in Karan Nandini kids story especially parth.
Second could be the budget. It is easier to cast young and unknown actors than the veterans of industry who would demand a commanding fees.
Well to be fair they didn't ask us whom we want to see back in the first place
True the biggest problem in KN dynamics with TM is age factor.Even Shobha looks old but still they are working it out. They are bringing Mihir gen people because this season story revolves around Mihir and tulsi solely. 38 years of marriage and TM having a grandson parth still fries my brain
Lots of reasons actually -
the OG show had an ensemble cast, so when these characters who were on the show way back are brought back it shows that though the family is now not living together under one roof as it did, there’s no bad blood between the brothers.
The show was overwhelmed by negative characters and they needed to balance it out somehow.
Offscreen reasons include simple facts, if they keep on showing the same faces all the time with no breaks in between then fatigue settles in - for both, actors and viewers alike. This allows viewers to get excited if they feel like the positive side character can play a helpful role in exposing the vamp or do something else that is useful. Look at what they did with Kiran yesterday itself - we immediately got Kiran noticing tension between his bhai and bhabhi, he was concerned, he also forms an important link and more importantly has a potential witness regarding Mihir being roofied.
The second reason is because they needed to show someone who can knock some sense into Mihir and who wouldn’t look like someone crossing the line as Mihir is now effectively the patriarch of the family - so his brothers trying to knock some sense into him are more palatable than his sons or daughter being out of line.
Also, the actor playing Hemant, Shakti, has signed another show where he will likely play the role of a major character - perhaps the father of one of the two leads. Details are not yet known but it stands to reason he will be busy and not as available for Kyunki as he was now when he has 2 shows. So they needed another person to be eventually team Tulsi and who better than a known OG character than a random new person they’d have to work to establish yet again and it can still be a task because people might question the motivations of a random newbie helping Tulsi out of nowhere but they’re not gonna question her devars helping her, especially given that we know they’re OG positive characters.
Smriti didn’t have an issue being grandmother to 25 years old then I doubt that’s the issue

I don’t think the issue is with Smriti aging onscreen either; she even had donned a white hair wig at the end of the show, unlike Parvati and Prerna who also ended up becoming grandmothers and great-grandmothers on their respective shows too.
The issue is that the actors who played her sons and daughter, her DILs have all aged and it shows. They handled the fact that Mihir looks younger and is fitter than Tulsi by simply showing he’s more health conscious than her and she’s been perpetually stressed, had multiple pregnancies and has been a busy homemaker looking after everyone and ignoring herself. But how do they manage to explain how her kids who all by this season’s math should be in their mid to late 30s all look so much older?
Hiten doesn’t look like Amar’s son by any stretch of the imagination; they can easily pass off as brothers or cousins or friends. Bring in Sumeet who has even grey hair now and he might look like Amar’s older brother rather than his oldest son.
The 38 year thing is such a stupid idea. If only they had made it 48, this might not have been an issue. Gautam can pass off as a 47 year old with premature grey hair while Shobha, Karan, Nandini all can be shown in their mid 40s easily too. Karan as a 44/5 year old having a 18/9 year old son wouldn’t seem weird or odd too.
I don't think the reason for sidelining karan-nandini is age factor. Smirti's son and daughter-in-law characters were played by hiten-gauri (karan-nandini) even in season 1 and in this season too there recent scenes with smirti were also appreciated by the audience.
