A consolation win for the Indians and they avoid a series whitewash. It was the bowlers who set up this win. Shubman Gill lost yet another toss but he was happy to field first even though the stats said a different story at this venue. The Aussies got off to a brisk start but India managed to pull things back. Siraj dismissed Head in the final over of the first powerplay, the finger-spinners (Axar and Washington) kept it tight and then it was Harshit Rana's crucial spell (4/39) that restricted the hosts to a below par total as they got bundled out for 236. In reply, India got off to a superb start as they scored 68 in the first 10 overs without losing a wicket. Hazlewood nipped out Gill and that brought the two experienced batters together. Most of the pre-series talks revolved around Rohit and Kohli and the two veterans didn't disappoint their fans today. The atmosphere was electric at the SCG and it seemed like a home game for the visitors. Almost every run was cheered and Ro-Ko hardly put a foot wrong. Kohli recorded his 75th ODI fifty and then surpassed Sangakkara to become the second highest run-getter in ODIs. Rohit, meanwhile, raised his 33rd ODI century. They put on a masterclass and stitched an unbeaten 168-run partnership as India romped home with 11.3 overs to spare.
