Sage Kashyap has many wives. One of them was Vinta. Vinta gave birth to Garud and Arun. Arun's sons were Sampati and Jatayu.

When Sampati and Jatayu were young, then they used to have fun in flying very high. One day they decided to reach near Sun and flew very high. Sun's rays started burning their wings. When Sampati saw that his younger brother was in danger, then out of brotherly affection, he flew above Jatayu and spreaded his wings to save Jatayu from Sun's rays. Because of very strong wind, both brothers fell in different places. Sampati's wings were burnt. He could not fly any more. One day, a sage told him that in future, if he helped Vanaras search for Ram's wife Sita, then he would get new wings and regain his strength. This is what happened.

yes..and arun was lord surya's charioteer. when vinata became impatient to see her baby she cracked open the egg to take a look and an infant came out giving her a curse tht she would have to becomea slave and tht the baby in the other egg(garuda) would free her from bondage.

What makes this more interesting is that there are striking parallels between this story and the Greek myth of Icarus. 😊
