Our pm went to USA asked Americans to vote for Donald Trump. This means foreign policy of present govt is utter failure. USA has neither permanent friends nor enemies. USA work on self interest historically.
It's Indian govt foreign policy failure while dealing with USA. The cost will be paid by normal citizens like us who will bear unemployment and inflation
The U.S. tariff impositions on Indian goods (for example, when the U.S. withdrew India’s preferential trade status under the Generalized System of Preferences in 2019) are not usually seen as a direct failure of India’s foreign policy. Rather, they stem from U.S. Domestic Politics & Trade Policy!
But we must admit that, it is a failure of Indian foreign policy, especially in the context of Modi’s “Howdy Modi” event 2019 in Houston, where he openly endorsed Trump with the slogan 'Abki Baar Trump Sarkar.' Despite the optics of personal friendship, India could not prevent the U.S. from withdrawing GSP benefits or imposing tariffs.
The endorsement of Trump was seen as compromising India’s long tradition of balancing powers and maintaining neutrality.
Tariffs are often driven by America’s internal economic concerns, protectionist lobbies, and political compulsions (like supporting U.S. farmers or manufacturers).
Even other allies face tariffs when U.S. interests dictate them e.g., the EU, Canada, Mexico have also faced similar measures.
