Well, that was a character written for keeping different level of audience and at the same time, showing the broadminded ppl of Shativan. Naniji mentioned many times to make Mami realize when was crossing the line with Khushi and Payal. Maybe that was the reason, she wanted a rich family girl as her bahu.

It's human nature to avoid looking like what you lack. This is why she wanted a rich dil, but now the kids have a different mindset
