I feel this is quite possible. Nikhil did say that he has a plan and the next thing he did was to propose bhagya right in front of everyone, and I think according to the plan bhagya will say yes (this is, if all that I really a plan), and then following the lie they have cooked to keep rishab away, they will flirt with each other and appa Amma might see it, thinking that bhagya still loves Nikhil and wants to marry him. Appa is already in a lot of guilt for not giving bhagya's choice a chance, and he somewhere also feels that all this rishab drama happened because he did not try to understand bhagya in the beginning, so he might try to correct his mistake and give nikhil a chance.

All this would be too dramatic though, especially with Revathi and purab's angle.
