I said yesterday that I selected eight shows to watch. But I was confused about which one to watch first. Today I decided to watch the Thai horror show, Don't Come Home, first because it's the shortest series on my list, and I wanted to watch a horror show. It consists of 6 episodes only. It's even shorter than Dead Boy Detectives, which contains 8 episodes. I watched the first episode today and it's good. I liked the episode because atmospheric horror is totally my type. I like haunted house stories as well. So, even though it's not very scary, I liked it. I felt so nice to watch a horror show after so many days because horror is my favourite genre. When I saw a beach in the episode, I remembered I saw beaches when I visited Thailand. Beaches are a significant part of Thailand's identity and its tourism.

I also started listening to a book on Audible today. It's a children's book, The Whistling Schoolboy and Other Stories of School Life, and it was written by Ruskin Bond. Ruskin Bond knows very well how to write children's books. I also like the fact that he writes about nature beautifully in his stories. I really like trees and nature. So, I prefer reading poems and stories where nature and trees are mentioned. I enjoy reading and listening to children's books very much. That's why I like to write children's stories too.

Why are we still promoting characters who endure endless emotional trauma in the name of tradition or love? Why are women still shown as either goddesses of sacrifice or manipulative villains? Why is every mother-in-law a monster and every daughter-in-law a bechari?Remaking these shows just proves that the industry is lazy and stuck in the past. Instead of moving forward and creating narratives that reflect modern, real life struggles and relationships, they keep dragging us back into a fantasy where a woman's worth is measured by how much she can silently tolerate. And let’s be honest, these remakes are rarely better than the originals, they just repackage the same stereotypes with better camera work and fancier outfits.

We deserve better. Indian TV has so much potential to tell powerful, diverse and progressive stories. There are so many real, raw topics waiting to be explored like mental health, gender equality, class struggles, modern parenting, LGBTQ+ stories and more. But no, instead we get another teary eyed heroine crying in the rain because her husband is having an affair again and she’s still expected to “save the family"

Enough is enough. Stop remaking these shows. Let them rest in the archives where they belong

Wonderful post! You wrote beautifully! smiley32 I completely agree that the ITV makers should create shows with which we can relate. ITV needs to change!

Aapki baat mein poora dum hai but do you really think Indian television audience have evolved? Agar hota toh a show like Ghum whose main USP was toxicity and cringe couldn't have ran for 5 years.

I was surprised when Ekta decided to bring Kyunki back and thought yeh outdated show with outdated concept nahi chalega but now when I see clips of kumkum bhagya and the love and appreciation it gets inspite of being an old wine in new bottle wala show, I cant say anything about kyunki now. In kumkum bhagya the FL was in love or she believed she was in love with her childhood friend. On the day of their wedding there's a groom swap (yes the outdated groom swap) and her best friend's enemy marries her. Her best friend brings cops to the mandap but the cops say, oh ab shaadi ho gayi hai hum kuch nahi kar sakte hain. smiley29Surprisingly even the FL says, dhoke se hi sahi but I am married to him so I will live with my husband. smiley18There's still that dhoosh dhaash background music, characters faces lighten up, screens shake and break all like 00s ke shows. Nothing has changed in her shows. Only the actors are new but the story, dialogues, sound and special effects are still like 00s ke shows and still I see so many people loving the new jodi and the characters. That show's trp was below 1. Now it's above 1. The FL is now in love with her husband who fraudly married her and is doing tandav in front of Devi maiya with sindoor bhari maang to heal her husband. smiley36

I actually won't be surprised if kyunki actually does well and is in top 5 trps. smiley36

Couldn’t have said it better. These remakes are deeply rooted in patriarchy and misogyny. They don’t even allow the female leads a sense of autonomy or agency. She’s expected to be everywhere at once — like seriously, is she a witch who can be in two places at the same time?

There’s barely a shred of logic in these plots. But honestly, I don’t entirely blame the makers — there’s always an audience for the regressive content they keep churning out. Unless we, as viewers, start being more discerning and thoughtful about the content we support, things won’t change. At least I don't expect them to change.

I agree....in this regard where bechari mahaan FLs are normalised whereas family is mostly filled with drama....and tv should start making or dealing with modern and more realistic ideas....

I haven't watched those shows so actually don't have knowledge about...just know about ghum have mixed responses in this because Sai was highly flawed....and I equally blame if not more than Virat for half of her problems then also she was victim to unnecessary hate from CN elders and third angle being dragged for so long....

Actually such shows work on trp and they are mainly old aunties so there is a high risk unless a different show hits the spot and others follow the modern trend....these type of concepts sell so they give....and if seen even in practical world there are so many women who still suffer or atleast not respected....so it can be understood why such themes look more connectable....and how they want to make it years long....

exactly my point!! You have hit the nail on the head. If Ghum and Rishta, Upma can run despite being total cringe, then so can Kyunki. I wouldn't be least surprised.

exactly what I think is, the finale of Ghum wasn't an open-ending in any shape & form, it was a full & final closure on them. The biggest proof is the background music of "MERI PYAARI BINDU" movie playing after Savi & Neil said ALVIDA to each other= "Maana ki hum yaar nahi, lo tay hai ki pyaar nahi" This is the biggest proof that there was no love
Makers have explicitly cleared the air around Savi-Neil's equation through this particular song, that they weren't lovers, but definitely an evolved bond through the shared grief & loss. As even, Neil woke up from coma to say Tejaswini & talked about taking care of Savi & her family more like a responsibility on him than out of love & Savi chose to walk away with Rajat's photo, that says all. ( that's a different thing, somebody had intervened to change the ending otherwise, we knew what was Ganja PH cooking)

The eyes of Savi & Neil welling up might be for many reasons- maybe idea of parting ways forever & never be able to see a good friend who helped in times of need & teamed up against murderer to seek justice. Even we too get emotional & teary eyed, when it's about time to part ways from our classmates & alma-mater. Savi was also teary-eyed as she was recollecting all the loss of lives she has incurred in her lifetime as she permanently bid adieu to her hometown Nagpur

I like that you wrote about the shipping lens. smiley2

Yaar sach bolu likha bahut achcha hai but what all they did na and the way they used to be into eo....friendship is a very wrong term to use....

Point is Savi loved Rajat more, Neil liked Teju more and yes they got attached in course of pain but they started connecting if seen Savi was clearly inclining towards him emotionally and so was somewhere Neil....

I won't say it love bahut bada shabd hai woh infact I don't use it for TejNeil instead Saraj- they had years of history plus kids and definitely would have seen so much yahan toh shuru hote khatam ho gaya, bahut kuch tha bas fortunately they parted ways....which was a wise and dignified decision....
