@ Meera Beautifully written as always
Mannat even if she wants to... will be in denial of her feelings. Like you said, she is not ignorant of what his feelings are or what she herself feels for him... that sadness with which she says aapse kabhi nahi milungi speaks of depth of her feelings.
But she has been subdued by the constant reference to her upbringing, the class difference and the loneliness she is being subjected to.
Also Mannat that way is understandably naive... for her (and loonies) the class difference is in tangible terms... Vikrant on the other hand doesn't have this mindset... he has always stood for what the person is rather than where in the society the person is... none of his other family members... especially the ladies believe in this idea...
For Vikrant there is no difference since he likes the person Mannat is... Mannat is more worldly or should we say has faced this situation, so she is aware.
The other but was his description to the delivery guy. How sweetly and earnestly he says uska saath acchha lagta hai... Vikrant we know doesn't have any friends.. and even if he doesn't accept he somehow understands the family is dependent on him... he cannot truly rely on them... while with Mannat he knows she is to be trusted.
Mannat is also someone he has chosen for himself rather than being forced on. The saath is what he seeks... and he hasn't got that from anyone yet. For all his macho and strong persona, thats supposed to protect everyone.... the child in him loves the shelter and comfort Mannat gives.
Beautiful beautiful writing today 😍
