I have been a proper science student in senior secondary. So I really doubt boys in the science stream would ever oust or not want to study with girls in their engineering classes, especially the mechanical branch which is considered to be a barren desert in most student circles. If you know, you know. smiley37

I remember Chetan Bhagat's novel, 2 States. The heroine, Ananya used to get so much attention from boys of her class. smiley36

I don't really like Chetan Bhagat or his novels but engineers, especially if combined with an MBA, yep, I know them very, extremely well. smiley36smiley37

@Bold: Honestly, it's just an outcome of very less girls in the STEM fields. I have seen this real time. In school, we were only 2 girls including me who had PCM in the class of 20 students. 18:2 was the gender ratio. Rest of the girls in the science stream were medical aspirants.

So the boys don't interact much with girls during the gruelling entrance exam preparations and then, finally don't get to meet many girls in their colleges. Awkwardness persists till their 20s. I don't blame them really. Though it seems funny to me sometimes. smiley36

2 States is not bad actually. I read it many years ago. I liked it at that time. But his another novel, One Night at a Call Centre is absolutely pathetic! Now I don't read his books at all.

Nice. As a Tamil girl, I didn't relate at all with 2 States. smiley37 I found the writing quite predictable and to say the least, mediocre. But yes, it's based on his real life relationship and marriage so I get the realistic part of it. Although IIT+IIM people... alright, fine, I get them. smiley36

There was a problematic dialogue in 2 States- "Who will sit infront a cake and not eat it?" I don't remember the words exactly. It was something like that. He was talking about the heroine. I thought it was not okay to talk or write about a girl like that. He was objectifying the girl. This kind of words aren't expected from a very intelligent and qualified guy. Then I heard there was a very disturbing dialogue in Half Girlfriend. The dialogue is so disturbing that I can't write it here. I didn't read Half Girlfriend. As far as the cultural aspects of 2 States are considered, it's not possible for me to identify the inaccuracies because I'm neither Tamil or Punjabi. But I can understand what you're saying.
