Is there any cricket expert out here who, with a strong sense of the game, can tell whose win percentage is higher today and who will win?
Thank you Parm for the match thread and for tagging me.
Best wishes to CSK and PBKS, but a bit more for CSK today.
This is it for the Chennai Super Kings. A defeat to the Punjab Kings today will officially rule them out of contention for the playoffs. The five-time champions, and arguably the most succesfull team in the history of IPL by some distance in terms of number of appearances made beyond the group stage, will become the first side to be knocked out of the race for the top four this season.
CSK have been through a miserable run of form in the tournament’s current season, with only two wins and seven defeats in their nine games so far. They are coming off four defeats and only one win in their last five games in the tournament, including the five-wicket defeat against SRH in the last game at home.
On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings are placed at the fifth spot with five wins, three defeats and a no-result game in their nine games. They are coming off an abandoned game against KKR. In the game before that, they had to face a seven-wicket defeat against RCB at home. A win in this game will help them enter the list of top four teams in the IPL points table.
The pitch at Chepauk continues to offer slow and turning conditions with the black-soil track playing a key role. Spinners are expected to dominate as the game progresses. The dew factor, though reduced due to overcast skies, may still slightly favour chasing teams.
Weather-wise, Chennai will see humid and partly cloudy skies with no rain interruption expected. Temperatures will hover around 28°C, perfect for a full-length thriller under lights.
Punchy, aggressive and quietly confident-Punjab Kings have hit the right notes this season under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. Young opener Priyansh Arya has been a revelation, batting with fearless intent and consistently giving PBKS electric starts. Shreyas himself has been the glue in the middle order, providing stability. With the likes of Josh Inglis, Maxwell and Nehal Wadhera supporting, the Kings boast a deep batting line-up. Their bowling unit, anchored by the ever-reliable Arshdeep Singh and leggie Yuzvendra Chahal, has also stepped up on turning tracks. Marco Jansen's left-arm angle adds variety, and if conditions suit, they could also unleash Azmatullah Omarzai or Bartlett for added pace. PBKS look the more balanced side and will look to dominate a wounded CSK at their fortress.
